I have arrived in Israel as the first President of the Republic of Somaliland to undertake a State Visit, and I am honoured by the warm welcome extended by my friend, President @Isaac_Herzog

For thirty-five years, the people of Somaliland have built a peaceful, democratic, and resilient nation. We asked the world: Do you see us? Israel answered first. Today marks a historic milestone in our journey and the beginning of a new chapter in the relationship between Somaliland and Israel.

To the people of Somaliland: I carry your hopes and aspirations with me. Generations have struggled, sacrificed, and persevered to bring our nation to this moment. We will seize this opportunity with confidence, wisdom, and determination, always guided by the interests of our people and our Republic.

Today, history is being written, and Somaliland stands ready to forge a shared future founded on friendship, cooperation, and mutual respect.

I was delighted to receive the first-ever Ambassador of Somaliland to Israel, Mohamed Hagi, who presented his diplomatic credentials this morning.

Ambassador Hagi was kind enough to praise our orchestra, who played the national anthem of Somaliland for the first time ever in Israel.

This important new partnership
between our nations will bring a shared future of cooperation in a range of fields to the benefit of both our peoples and the entire region.

Approximately two weeks, CCF received information on two young #cheetah cubs in the northeastern part of Somaliland destined for the illegal wildlife trade - if they survived. In partnership with the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC), Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) quickly mobilized a rescue team to get the cubs as soon as possible.

By 7 pm the following evening, the cubs were safely back at the Cheetah Rescue and Conservation Centre (CRCC) in Geed-Deeble, receiving expert care. Thanks to the dedication and expertise of the team at the CRCC, the tiny cubs were stabilized and are growing fast!

The illegal wildlife trade continues to devastate #wild cheetah populations in the Horn of Africa. According to estimates, less than 500 #cheetahs remain in the wild in Horn of Africa – and in 2023, the Northeast African cheetah (the subspecies found in the region) was uplisted to #endangered. Most of the cheetah cubs removed from the wild as part of the illegal #wildlife trade do not survive the traumatic conditions experienced while being trafficked.
