Excited to say we'll be opening a #ForestSchool next fall for preschoolers! Looking for any and all resource recommendations if anyone would like to share!! #ElonEd

My favorite thing! We did hot seats last week. Each kid got a chance to sit in the wonderfully decorated hot seat, and their peers and educators said kind things about them and shared good memories. It was the best! (idea from SOAR) #ElonEd#ShareBrilliance
S2 loves to express herself w/ art. S1 knew that & took the initiative to find a way for her to communicate in a way that is comfortable for her. Also, look at that change in feelings! The connections they are building are so wonderful #ElonEd#ShareBrilliance
Seeing Ss check in & show each other compassion fills me w/ hope. S1 saw S2 visibly upset & drew this, gently asking if she wanted to fill it in. After talking & drawing for a bit, S1 asked if S2 wanted to do it again. The kindness & tenderness are clear #ElonEd#ShareBrilliance
An educator I knew used to say “I appreciate you” to people at seemingly random times. She said it when someone wasn’t necessarily doing anything but was being themselves. It stuck with me. I try to say it (primarily with the Ss I work with, but I’m trying to extend it). #ElonEd
It can be when someone makes a joke that is goofy and totally their style, when they are quiet and thinking very deliberately, when they ask a curious question, etc. The thing is it’s not about what they’re doing. It’s about them simply being who they authentically are #ElonEd
A4: I do thinks it comes from thinking they’re saying bad things, but why do we think they are? Yes, insecurity, but we’ve also been taught to be xenophobic and assume the worst #ElonEd
A3: First, we must remember that teaching IS political. There is no such thing as an “apolitical classroom,” and trying to use this approach supports the status quo. #ElonEd
A semi-related thought to tonight's #ElonEd chat, but something I've wrestled with is learning how to call attention to issues effectively. Knowing how to clearly communicate issues you see in a way that people want to listen to is a skill I don't yet have.
@amburkoed Step 1: Collaborate with your Ss. Listen to their needs. Make sure every action you do could have a co- placed before it. Teachers often forget that they have a force of 120 people that will walk alongside them in disrupting the normal and creating change #ElonEd
A4: To act, we must be informed. That means listening to individuals' experiences, reading (and researching who's writing), asking questions and reflecting, admitting when you don't know... Taking what you learn and making thoughtful decisions. And more reflection #ElonEd
@IrionEleanor It's important to recognize that Ss are constantly learning and motivated. It just might not look as it is expect it to look. Their motivation might be focused on learning how to take care of siblings, be home alone, do school without a structure or space, etc. #ElonEd
A2: radical hope is that we've been given an opportunity to re imagine every aspect of how we do education. Radical hope is we have the ability to tear down systems and replace them with more equitable opportunities. Radical hope is the ability to dream our wildest dreams #Eloned
A2: My #radicalhope is that teachers will see and honor the assets students have shown during and after the #pandemic. The #grit and #resilience they have all shown is utterly amazing. #ElonEd
