Michael Orth & Mike Piazza together again this time presenting to the Administrators Regional Crisis Team on updates, best practices and the importance of relationships. So fortunate to have them as our partners! @pnwboces@mmo6run@WestchesterDCMH@PutnamCountyGov
Once again, in 2021, more service members died by suicide than any other cause. We've lost more service members to suicide than combat every year since 2011. On #VeteransDay, we need to honor all who have served.
Does less sleep result in worse mental health? While correlation is not causation, CDC data suggest a growing problem with both sleep and #mentalhealth in youth.
Special thanks to Michael Orth & Mike Piazza for providing their annual presentation to the PNW BOCES Regional Crisis Team who always look forward to the update show! Thanks also to Christopher John for joining. @mmo6run@PutnamCountyGov@pnwboces@westchestergov
As a member of the NYS Opioid Settlement Fund Advisory Board, I share our 2023 Final Report. Through a collaborative process we overlayed equity & co-occurring disorders on EVERY recommendation. If accepted, this will make lasting impact/benefit all NYers https://t.co/zIFPLblu67
The economic cost of schizophrenia in the US was an estimated $343.2 billion in 2019, double the cost in 2013. Yes, schizophrenia is expensive, and yet we are still not paying for recovery services like clubhouses and peer support. Investing in recovery will reduce the cost.
@NYSComptroller I'm the mom of a 19 year old who died by accidental overdose and member of the NYS Opioid Settlement Fund Advisory Board. I bring a co-occurring disorders perspective and appreciate the emphasis placed on the need for improved coordination between @NYSOASAS@NYSomh@HealthNYGov
For decades, Rosalynn Carter has been a voice for those struggling with serious #mentalillness. Her leadership during the last time the federal government took a leading role in mental health reform galvanized generations of activism. https://t.co/zmrBQR2b9y
DCMH staff and their families helped the Miracle League of Westchester celebrate at this year's Very Special Halloween event held at Ridge Road Park in Hartsdale. Over 2000 people were registered to attend for games, hayrides, dancing & of course TREATS!
Nearly 4x more males died by suicide compared to females in 2021. And suicides for males aged 15–24 increased by an alarming 8% from 2020, with no significant declines for any age group.
These numbers need to be going down, not up.
I visited the @OssiningPolice & met with @OssiningPDChief Kevin Sylvester. He gave a tour & connected me with the Mobile Crisis Response Team (MCRT), peer specialist Armand Urbina & clinician Nicole Meeker. Thank you for all your service & for protecting our community. #safety
Great read from @BigMeanInternet and @NYMag. America's youth are dealing with many of the same stressors as adults, and there's no singular cause for their lack of happiness. https://t.co/8sfVEuFiOd
Zach Chafos waited 76 days in an ER waiting for a psychiatric bed. And he's not the only one. Our youth deserve better than this. https://t.co/ZmiHHkOdNn
Total number of suicides in 2021 was 4% higher than in 2020.
By quarter, we saw the highest spike in Q4 of 2021: 7% more suicides than in Q4 of 2020.
To bring these numbers down, we must ensure those struggling get quality care and have access to people, place, and purpose.
32 benches – representing each participating @FIFAWorldCup nation – are being built to promote mental health. We love to see it! Peers are an important part of the mental health team. https://t.co/ONvdWTNWho
