๐๐ BONITA, 3 YO, FEMALE โ IN MANHATTAN ACC - came into the shelter as an owner surrender on 1/19/2025, with the surrender reason stated as not a fit - too many animals already. ๐๐ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ ๐ฟ

โก๏ธ NEW HOPE RESCUE ONLY
โก๏ธ ๐๐ 1ST Chance on Emergency Placement List โ VERY URGENT โ ๐๐ ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฑ
โก๏ธ 15 DAYS IN SHELTER
โก๏ธ BONITA IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means the cat is given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Bonita came to us from a home with many other cats and the shift to Care Center life has not been an easy one. She seems to think that if she makes herself as small as possible, we'll walk by her condo and forget she's even there. When her efforts, of course, don't work, Bonita takes it in a different direction but with the same sentiments. We've tried to get to know Bonita through all our usual toys and treats, blankets and beds, but nothing we offer seems to help us build the friendship we seek. We've certainly gotten Bonita's attention, which includes her hisses and swats in response to pets from the scratcher tool, but with all the happenings at the shelter, she's understandably quite wary. She's hoping to find a forever home where she'll have the time and space to come out her little kitty shell on her own time. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

โก๏ธ BUNNY IS ON THE EPL FOR BEHAVIORAL REASONS - She is not thriving in the care center and continues to display distance-increasing behavior when approached for interactions. She has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means the cat is given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Bunny was found wandering around an apartment building for three days. Finding a forever family sometimes comes in steps, but Bunny seems to want to hop over there right away. We can't say she's been much of a fan of the middle stages. We know it's just one short stop on her way to something better, but we've been working hard to persuade Bunny to give it a try. For our part we've been trying everything in hopes of helping her find her stride because we don't know much about Bunny's likes and dislikes prior to coming to the Care Center. Luckily she's been accepting of pets and treats. Bunny seems to prefer the coziness of her den and though hardly the most conducive to meeting new people, she's trying her best to keep herself comfortable. We hope that someone will scoop up this kitty and give her the chance she needs to be her best kitty self. Bunny tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter, and may be intimidated by small children. She may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to her new homeโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

He has not warmed up despite staff using treats to build a positive association. This designation often means the cat is given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Arrabiata was abandoned in a building lobby and came in with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. While he uses every opportunity to emphatically explain that he's unhappy, I wish Arrabiata would use some of those hisses to tell us what we can do to make things easier for him. Alas, things are not always so simple. Choosing the comfort of his den over his big open condo, Arrabiata hasn't been interested in pets and toys and is quick with a hiss and a swat to say that. Arrabiata is a gentleman who could use some patience and love to decompress. A quiet home and a loving family where he will have the space to figure things out unencumbered by the constant stream of sights and sounds we have at the Care Center. We don't know much about his history prior to coming to us and we don't know what kind of cat he'll be when he has a family to call his own, but we know he deserves all the love in the world. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

โก๏ธ JUNIOR IS ON THE EPL FOR MEDICAL/BEHAVIORAL REASONS - Junior has a severe URI with anorexia and will not tolerate medical handling for supportive care. He will need to be hospitalized with placement and will likely need a feeding tube placed (unable to manage here due to behavior). BEING BACK ON THE EPL LIST WITH THIS TYPE OF DESIGNATION MEANS JUNIOR WILL NOT BE GIVEN MUCH TIME FOR RESCUE/FOSTER/ADOPTION.๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
A volunteer writes: Junior's not quite sure about the Care Center. He came forward to sniff the treats I held before deciding he actually wasn't interested and leaping onto his condo shelf to make his point. Curling himself up like a perfect kitty statue, Junior seemed to sigh as he waited for whatever was going to happen next. I know sometimes life can feel like it's happening to you, so my heart went out to dear Junior knowing that he's been through so many big changes recently. Junior was brought to us after living in a home with many other cats and figuring out his path may take him some time. I spent a few moments talking with Junior and right as I closed the door, he went over to the treats. We're all hoping that someone will see dear Junior trying his very best and give him the chance to become part of a family. Junior tolerates attention and petting but may be fearful or stressed in the shelter; he may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

A volunteer writes: Trying to help himself to the treat I held in my hand, Homefries reached a paw through his condo door. With a nonchalant, "Don't mind if I do," Homefries was making an effort to introduce himself in his own way. A sign on his condo door explains he prefers a slower approach, so he isn't always quite so forward. He does, however, love treats. When I opened his condo door to share the treats a little easier, Homefries immediately looked askance at my boldness. I'd only been trying to offer what he had asked for, but figuring out shelter life hasn't come so easily to Homefries. He came to us in December from a home with many other cats and following his lead and speed is important to him. Homefries may not always know what to do, but he is still so hopeful someone will give him a chance. โค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ปโค๏ธ ๐ป

This designation often means the cat is given very little time for rescue/foster/adoption. ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
JELEAH is displaying behaviors that preclude placement in the adoptions room and/or may require further investigation before placement in a home. She is extremely fearful in the shelter environment and does not currently tolerate petting or handling.
