@engineering_bae I’d done that a few times as a hiring manager in the past; in those cases it was primarily to respect my and the candidate’s time, and when I’d do so I’d try to be as open as possible with them as to why.
@engineering_bae It’s infrequent, but my guidance is: once things reach a point where there’s nothing the candidate or interviewer (depending on which role you’re in at the time) can say nothing more to change your mind, that’s a point to call it.
@tarynpivots If you haven't already tried them, I've found the right fitting tips on IEMs to be super comfortable for long-term wear. Over ears tend to irritate my ears / head far more quickly.
@tarynpivots I use a Yeti X mic (it's got directional pickup options, which is nice and hardware mute - perfect for calls) and mostly use speakers but switch to comfortable headphones / IEMs if there's a lot of outside noise (i.e. thunderstorm)
@Nick_Craver That’s my work laptop. Not a fan. Well, speaking of fans - they never stop. Running two 2560x1440 monitors off a wd19 the left cuts out (and comes right back) multiple times an hour. Otherwise, performance is reasonable and the machine itself pretty stable.
So today's thread is on how to apply for jobs (beating out "the horrors of git" by a nose).
Scenario: you're on the job market for one reason or another. Let's begin.
Thinking of leaving Go because generics is now officially coming to the language?
I broke out my guitar, and my pale face and channeled my inner Lin-Manuel Miranda. With lyrics from @_rsc, @FiloSottile and even @golang.
(I'm as embarrassed as you are.)

@JennaQuindica @crayzeigh ++ on the Aeron recommendation; they've got a few sizes (largely affecting width of the chair) but will hold up over time to the weight and are appropriately sized.
@thefarseeker They did back out a lot of the really painful points of the feature set change, but they've been tightening restriction gradually over time and don't have a great story around hobby users between free and enterprise licensing; only time will tell there
Trying to get started with Solidworks and found SQL Server (which is a dependency of Solidworks) has a dependency on... you, you guessed it - Edge. 🤷♂️
@thefarseeker 👍 it’ll be an adventure - wasn’t too thrilled about the license nerf Fusion360 dropped last year so figured I’ll give Solidworks a go. Want to try to set up and render my ideas for a CNC enclosure
@todpunk@GBrayUT They ship em in batches, so likely to be delivered around the same date
Overall getting pretty comfortable with it. Bottom row w/ the ortho layout is killing me though - I've got a 50% chance of hitting correct w/ c v b
