You used to see those photographers who snapped your birthday pictures whilst growing up with their old photo machine as individuals without dreams. Today, you own a studio with different machines doing photoshoots; snapping pictures, editing photos and videos for content creation.

You would look down on those women who cooked your meals during ceremonies( popularly known as Olopo and Alase). My dear, aren't you admiring Hilda Baci day by day?. You are even dreaming of owning a restaurant too one day and you are already cooking from your rented apartment to sell to your colleagues in school. Olopo na nieh, Chef Bukky 😆 🤣!

You pitied Boda Taju who would be in his shop as early as 6am crafting woods to make chairs, tables and wardrobes for people. Today, you are making furniture for houses and offices marketing same online. Pele, low budget "Prince Ade Furniture, on sole darewa".

Arike Pre- Order, you are selling thrift?. The same "Boskoro Koyewo and Yamu" that you used to mock some of your colleagues for in school back then? What's the collections in your brand name if not those oversized shirts and crazy jean trousers?.

Adebimpe has even learned tailoring (oh sorry fashion designing) since her university days from a woman who didn't finish secondaryschool. Nkechi is currently learning how to bake cakes and banana bread with her Biochemistry certificate. Funsho has become a Photographer who charges well for call to bar and pre wedding photoshoots. The brilliant Timothy is now a Bolt Driver in the city of Lagos earning more than many 9-5ers monthly, Bukola is now a Bricklayer( oh sorry, Construction Engineer) and Kemi was the one who came with two of her friends to clean thoroughly my apartment for #150,000.

We have packaged everything in this generation; kuli-kuli,kilishi, garri Ijebu, elubo( yam flour), potato chips...Name it!!
Mechanics are now called "engineers".
Plumbers and electricians are now referred to as "Technicians" in our companies and educational institutions,
Carpenters are now "furniture and home decorators"
Gate men are now called "Security officers".
Tailors are now rebranded as "Fashion designers". 😆 🤣 😂. Na them plenty pass!!
Commercial drivers are now packaged as "uber/bolt commuters".

Reality has made everyone wise tipa tipa. We have come to realise that not all of us will do 9-5 in the corporate space. We have now seen that money follows value and in a struggling economy like Nigeria,skills are more significant than degrees in the struggle for survival. While academic certificates may open doors, only practical competence drives economic value. Every legitimate and honest job matters ooo!!. As long as it is putting food on your table, be proud of it.

There was a Nigerian president who once said he was afraid whenever Sheikh Abubakar Gumi came to see him, because he knew it meant he had done something wrong. That was because Sheikh Gumi neither asked politicians for money nor accepted it from them.

He could walk into the president’s office, or any politician’s office, whenever he wished because they knew he wielded influence and didn’t need their money. He was there to remind them of the burden of amanah, not to seek favours.

Which Nigerian scholar today commands even a quarter of that kind of influence purely by virtue of his scholarship?

I also remember when CAN wanted to build a large church in ABU for purposes unrelated to the university, and people in Zaria protested. Namadi, who was Vice President at the time, tried to reach Sheikh Albani to inform him that the project would no longer proceed because the concerns of the people had been heard. If I remember correctly, Albani didn’t answer the call, and Namadi had to send him a text instead.

Sheikh Albani was known for refusing donations from politicians for his da’wah because he believed accepting their money could compromise his ability to speak the truth.

A scholar does not have to become a politician to make an impact. But if you choose to enter politics, you must also accept the burdens and scrutiny that come with it. Your admirers should not shield you from political criticism by invoking your status as a scholar. When you are on the preaching platform, you are a preacher. But when the discussion is about politics, you are a politician, and you will be treated as one.

When OBJ left prison, Andy Uba (through Stella Obasanjo) provided him with funds to bring him back on his feet including medical trip to USA. Andy was duly compensated as he was appointed Special Assistant on Special Duties & Domestic Affairs to the President. During the OBJ Presidency, Andy was famously known as the President's right-hand man and the man to seek to have access to the President.

The men who played major roles to facilitate the emergence of OBJ as presidential candidate of the PDP in 1998 are military generals like Abdulsalam Abubakar, Ibrahim Babangida, Aliyu Gusau, TY Danjuma, etc. There was even an agreement that OBJ would handover to IBB after completing his first term.

Even Atiku's emergence as VP was a choice made by OBJ after ignoring the 3-man list submitted by the National Chairman, Chief Solomon Lar. OBJ refused to consider any of Abubakar Rimi, Adamu Ciroma, and Professor Jerry Gana. Instead he picked Atiku because he felt his CV wasn't intimidating like that of Rimi, or Ciroma, or Gana. He couldn't have picked Gana anyway because of the need to give the ticket a religious balance.

We have more than 10 recognized presidential candidates, so where is this one-party state coming from?

Whenever I walk into a public health facility in Lagos, announced or unannounced, I look for three things.

1. The Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) logo of standards and quality at the entrance.
2. The sign directing patients to the health insurance desk for enrollment.
3. The public and patient toilets. Do they have running water, hand soap, and are they clean? If the toilets are clean, the likelihood is that the hospital will be clean.

This week I made an unscheduled stop at General Hospital Odan on Lagos Island, and the first two were right there on the entrance wall.

The first is the HEFAMAA seal. It tells you this facility has been inspected, passed the quality test, and earned the right to display the Lagos State brand of healthcare quality. Two years ago I made this mandatory for our own public facilities, not just the private ones. What is good for the goose is good for the gander, and charity begins at home. It would be hypocrisy to demand high standards from private hospitals without holding our General Hospitals and Primary Healthcare Centres to the same standards. So every public facility is going through the same rigorous accreditation. This is how we raise quality on the supply side of care.

And quality is not only about the building. It is about what happens at the bedside. Here is one standard I want every Lagosian to know and demand: do not accept malaria treatment without an approved test confirming you are positive. Treating without testing is poor practice, it wastes your money, and it fuels drug resistance. This is now policy, and sanctions will soon apply to any facility that ignores it.

Soon I will be in a position to tell you plainly: if you do not see the HEFAMAA logo displayed, do not patronise that facility. We are not there yet, but that day is coming. Play your part. Look for the brand of quality, get insured, and report what you see, to the facility management, to the Ministry of Health, or straight to my DM. We are building this together, and before the end of 2026 every public facility in Lagos will bear this assurance.

While I agree that we might not have printed up to 80T. Going by how much we printed in 2023 alone (approx 8T), we would have printed much more than 23T in three years- data shows we were progressively printing more year on year.

All monetary and fiscal indicators showed we were heading for bankruptcy if we didn't take a detour, if you think we weren't, just use those indicators ( or any other one) to show it.

THE ALTAR IS NOT A POLITICAL TOOL

The roles of clerics and men of the cloak in nation-building is clearly defined in the scriptures.

They are to intercede on behalf of Nations as seen in 1 Timothy 2: 1-2.

They are called to provide spiritual guidance and moral covering for the people as seen in 1 Peter 5:2–3.

They are called to defend the weak and care for the vulnerable as seen in Psalm 82:3.

They are not to descend into the politcal gallery.

But if the Cardinal is genuinely convinced that he possesses greater competence than those entrusted by the people to govern them, then perhaps he should not hide perpetually behind studio cameras and the sanctity of ecclesiastical office. He should, honourably and courageously, retire the cloak and enter the political theatre himself.

There is no shame in seeking political office or accepting political responsibility. Indeed, if he believes he has the magic recipe for better governance, let him bring the pot to the fire and cook for the people. He can begin by seeking political appointment, accepting the burden of public office and showing Nigerians how governance can be refined differently.

Priests and leaders of faith can - and indeed should - serve as the conscience of a people. But moral authority is diminished when the referee is perceived to be wearing the jersey of one of the teams.

This is why the issue is not whether a cleric may have political opinions. Of course he may. The issue is whether the sacred authority of the pulpit should become a vehicle for partisan political warfare.

A cleric can criticise government. He can demand accountability. He can speak for the poor. He can challenge injustice. He can pray for leaders and counsel them. But when his political preferences become sufficiently obvious that his pronouncements are interpreted through the prism of partisan allegiance, he risks forfeiting the neutrality that gives his moral voice its weight.

As it was in the last election, so it may well be also be again. The cardinal should support the member of his religious sect with his full chest but not while hiding behind a sacred spiritual assignment to prosecute partisan politics.

The cassock is not a camouflage for politics.

The altar deserves its priest.The political arena deserves its politicians.And the people deserve the wisdom to know the difference.

6. Should the FG be pushing for constitutional amendments for return of mission schools as they requested? NO. Secondary schools are the remit of state governments hence the President was right in saying they should approach the state's just like he did as governor based on the request of religious leader like them.
7. Should the FG create new universities indiscriminately because some religious leaders asked? The President had said it will only be done by looking at the data vis a vis student numbers and demand, available resources, etc. We can't solve old problems by creating new problems with the same systemic issues that created the problems in the first place.

WHY PETER OBI LOST HIS MOJO

What you now see unfolding after every interview is the wages of OVERCIRCULATION - the curse of a face flogged too often before the eyes of the very people who once worshipped it.

The 16th Law of Power as codified by the celebrated author Robert Greene defines this more pointedly:

“Use Absence to Increase Respect and Honor.”

Greene warns that ceaseless availability erodes perceived worth - that when a man is forever present, the eye stops searching for him, and what the eye no longer searches for, the heart soon stops longing for. Strategic absence, by contrast, breeds curiosity, anticipation, reverence - the mystery that keeps a shrine sacred is the veil, not the constant unveiling.

Even in elementary economics, we were taught that scarcity increases value while when the supply of commodity far outweigh demands, value naturally declines. Scarcity is the mother of value; abundance, its undertaker.

In 2023, Peter descended upon an unaware, unprepared and naively young population who was desperate for anything that appeared different. Atiku and Tinubu have dominated the political space for at least 2 decades, the vast portion of their parents listening pleasure, their own entire childhood, and have now grown reluctant in further patronage of these enduring brands in their adulthood - They will promote anything that remotely resembles Difference.

So in 2022, Peter appealed to their sentiment, innocence and inherent bias such that a generation abandoned the sacred duty of scrutiny. Even when Peter sneezed, they swore his breath carried the fragrance of Renewal.

But it has now been 4 full years since then. The euphoria has dissipated. The element of surprise, once his greatest currency, has been spent to the last kobo. And interview after interview, Peter hands his now-maturing admirers fresh evidence of just how fortunate Nigeria was that the majority did not think as they once did in 2023.

This ruin, he could have forestalled - or at least delayed - had he resisted becoming a parrot that sings at the mere glint of a microphone. Was it David or his wise sexually generous son, Solo, who advised us that:

“Whoever restrains his words has knowledge… Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise.”

Peter's overwhelming incompetence, disturbing mental inferiority and embarrassing intellectual disability might have passed the world by unnoticed, cloaked forever in the dignity of scarcity, had he not made himself as common as roadside pepper. And that, for me, is the man's true undoing - the very root of why his mojo now lies buried.

When the rain falls every single day, even the farmer who prayed for it begins to grumble; but let the sky withhold itself a while, and every gathering cloud becomes a promise.
