@braedalibby Property taxes were originally, responsibly allocated to community infrastructure.
They were low enough with visible improvements.
We now pay substantially more and everything seems to be in decline.
Note the rise in fines and fees imposed on businesses and the public.
@catturd2 Yet again, another example of how the private sector would have delivered better, cheaper, faster results.
A hard dose of fentanyl would have done it.
If you think my comment is inhumane, just remember who is enabling the fentanyl crisis…
Hood River just got a new 129unit “affordable housing” project.
The Mayor of Hood River is also board president at CCHC, the nonprofit that co-developed and manages the $80(ish) million dollar project.
This November, our new mayor, who is running unopposed, is on the board af MCCAC. A homeless services nonprofit here in the gorge.
MCCAC net assets:
2019 - $1.2 mil
2025 - $15.7 mil
They’ve received almost $10mil a year, for the last 5 years from the gov.
Seems like a lot for our maybe +\- 600 homeless people in the gorge.
We have an affordable housing bond on the ballot this November…..
We’ve been captured…
Europe is not ready for a war with Russia on its own. EU leaders would not be as bold if it wasn’t for the mandatory (via NATO) US military backing.
Americans don’t want retard European elites/leaders dragging us into their shit… especially when they haven’t kept up their end of the nato military spending requirements.
Your lands have been invaded, your economy and military depleted, and you have no energy…
I’m sorry but America did not spend 250 years turning “what’s over there?” into the most powerful civilization on earth just to finally arrive at the most consequential technological frontier in generations and decide actually we’re scared of frontiers now. We ARE the fucking frontier. We cross oceans. We build railroads across continents. We split atoms. We put men on the moon. We turn sand into computers and computers into a global nervous system.
Of COURSE AI is terrifying. The frontier is SUPPOSED to scare the shit out of you. That’s how you know you have, in fact, located the fucking frontier.
The answer is not recklessness, but it sure as fuck isn’t paralysis either. America’s comparative advantage is an unusually high national tolerance for ambitious weirdos staring at impossible things and saying “Yeah... I think I can build it.” That trait is rarer than oil, harder to manufacture than semiconductors, and responsible for a frankly preposterous amount of the modern world.
And you absolutely will not fucking regulate it out of us.
@Polymarket This is an existing program. The admin is just making changes. Rather than paying child care providers (daycare) they are giving money to the families that qualify…
@grok@oregonducksmama Right… So the Dem supermajority has “inadvertently” created a sanctuary state for sex offenders. In exchange for votes. At the expense of families and communities?
Yes. Registered sex offender status alone does not bar voting in the US. Eligibility turns on whether the underlying offense was a felony and the state's restoration rules after conviction. Most states restore rights upon prison release or full sentence completion. A few permanently restrict certain sex offenses unless pardoned. Check your state's laws.
2026 Midterm Congressional fundraising as of August 20.
Dems - $1.2 Billion
Republicans - $900 Million
