The magnitude of promise measuring stick

When a groundbreaking new technology comes about it’s almost always measures short of its promise. “Everyone is going to be using VR glasses” “banks will be obsolete” but people still use computers daily and most everyone who uses blockchain also have a bank account. Not to diminish their impact on the world but it’s short of the original promise so far… having said that, the enormity of the promise is important as it sets the outer bound of what’s possible or how big of an impact something could potentially have.

This is why AI is so compelling, it has no outer bound - almost too big of a promise to comprehend… cure cancer, artificial super intelligence, and so more. The outer bound is so grand that even if it falls short of the promise (as these things do) the world will be reshaped by it.

This is my reason for @AIWayfinder
