@hikosaemon We lived on a narrow street near meguro station, Koban halfway along, signposted 30, stop signs everywhere. Everyday cars pinging along over 50. So many ignoring stop signs. Amazon delivery drivers the absolute worst, but a lot of residents too.
Uniqlo. This is one of the 2 biggest things learned in Tokyo summers. Wear an undershirt made for summer, and everyone sweats. There’s just a more natural acknowledgment of sweating in Japan (and I assume more of Asia). In west it seems you’re supposed to be ashamed it 40°c
I have a theory that people have simply forgotten why “old fashioned” things like undershirts, and (not in the winter) hats, gloves and scarves are actually USEFUL. It seems so strange that the whimsy of the trends could overcome the practicality
@hizaga Old money in Brooklyn??? In summer??? I’d be living in the Hamptons and maybe spending 2 nights in the upper east side duplex each week if I had to work, or a gallery opening.
Welcome to American @amazon I guess. I will miss the accuracy of Japanese delivery, but knew this before moving.
Was ordered for same day Prime to a city locker, now delayed 20 hours.
Makes me wonder if Bloomberg pays you in USD. You are displaying a glorious amount of narrow sightedness on the longer term implications in a country reliant on imports, stagnant salaries, and mortgages 100% dependant on absurdly low interest rates.
Wondering about this phenomenon of foreigners being angered on Japan's behalf because of the yen.
The number of Japanese travelling abroad is down around 40% on 2019. Even then (when the yen was around 105-110), only about 1 in 6 people travel abroad in a typical year.
@taipan168@cosmicjester I use an older version of bellroy passport case. The pen is a ridiculous size and shape, but for 2 moments in life: Australian entry form, and Japan reentry form (for work or pr visa) it’s super convenient. And you can hide it away before any seat neighbours notice you have a pen
@Yana_Yz Cooked food left on the stovetop over night considered good the next day. Even after a couple of hours food safety in Australia would be saying throw it out, disinfect the kitchen, book an ambulance just in case.
@Struan_Tokyo Sadly Montbell shit 6 months ago and Uniqlo opened around 6 weeks ago. Got some nice Yebisu crossover gear, but there’s already Uniqlo in gotanda, meguro and shibuya so not sure this was needed.
But montbell was unique and useful, even dog things.
@Struan_Tokyo Got the re-entry permit last week, sorry prob not clear on question. Once you have the reentry permit it’s just a matter of showing the agent I assume? And not filling the yellow form anymore.
Anyone used the multi re-entry permit that’s given by immigration from Japan? At the airport do I just not fill any yellow form out now? They will see the sticker in the passport and that’s all I need?
Before I mute and block every account posting FF vs TS shit, people know there’s no medals given out for competitive concerting right? Like you go to your gig, I’ll go to mine, maybe to the same one. And going to one in no way affects going to another.
@jameswdelano Assume it’s a wrap? Until today I had one in black, but would have much preferred something lighter, maybe not super bright though. Japan sun is a killer on black, and there’s a certain nefarious rep people assume to a black MB that maybe hot pink doesn’t suffer from?
