Tomorrow: 1st episode of my @BBCRadio4@bbcworldservice series, 100 Years of Exile. https://t.co/K8QzQVgKvQ - the story of 100 years of refugee crises. Thanks above all to @gilesedwards for turning a century into 90 minutes of radio!
It’s HUMAN rights not FAMILY rights. I have to manage digestion of the new UK immigration proposals to one shock per hour - this one is especially absurd & cruel. It’s also very relevant to my current work around the problematic construction of family in social & migration policy
Just crossed Darién Gap w/500 migrants from across world. Saw best & worst of humanity but mostly humanity. 23yo diabetic died—no insulin. Wife, toddler & rest had to bury him in mud & go on. Dehumanizing policies distract from failure to meet challenge of our time: Refugee planet
Sometimes living in San Francisco I miss the seasons; but I knew this city was home now when I realized I’d learnt to love the fog. https://t.co/4cl8K2Xe4I
@drlaurajane Also - gola have a wide range of vegan trainers - https://t.co/7TPBq3nYF7; and you can get vegan Stan smiths which are probably most comfortable ones I’ve tried, but yeah, they still use a lot of leather!
@drlaurajane Have spent far too much time on this question… I really want to get some SAYE trainers when my current ones (veja) die - https://t.co/zZGhmnhOMN
@JenniferAllsopp I got my phone screen fixed in Kentish Town a few months ago in a great Afghan-run store (though I think the guy was actually born in Pakistan…)
Think of how extremist the Republican Parry has to be to defend Trump despite the fact that he literally wanted to lead a violent coup. Just totally new territory in American history since Civil War.
You can directly ring the airline responsible for the Rwanda deportation flight (Privilege style) and tell them what you think. As of a minute ago they're still picking up the phone.+34971408985
Syrians. It's 15 Syrians who have been served with a removal notice that they'll be sent away to Rwanda on 14 June.
We cannot stand for this barbarism. Syrians refugees, ALL refugees are welcome here.
NEW: for this week’s column I dug into the curious case of British attitudes to immigration
Before the EU ref, concern about immigration tracked levels of arrivals. Since then, immigration has kept rising but concerns have evaporated
What’s going on?
