Mary Lou should run for the presidency.
Simply because she would win. 🗳️

Sinn Féin is probably the worst run political parties right now... constantly flip-flopping on policies. So I don’t expect them to be bold or tactically shrewd enough to do this.

But it would be a masterstroke:

Mary Lou in the Áras would be a HUGE symbolic win, supercharging SF with momentum. Its also the perfect position to champion global justice for Palestine too. Their No1 issue.

Yes, she’d have to step down as party leader. But from the presidency, she becomes a “presidential oracle” of sort.

This also gives her the perfect off-ramp. If she fails to become Taoiseach next time around, the knives will be out. The chance for the presidency gone.

If she won its the perfect excuse for the party to refresh its front bench and maybe, (just maybe!) commit to some core policies on immigration & housing.

Pearse Doherty would likely step up. Staying relentlessly focused on housing. Let him be the hammer & her a halo.

Of course, NONE of this will happen.

Irish politics is allergic to risk or strategy.
Everyone’s playing checkers.

But Mary Lou on the ballot would be Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s worst nightmare. 😱
