There’s no denying NASCAR soared once you could watch every race live on TV. There’s also no denying that NASCAR’s fanbase and ratings have fallen off a cliff since they introduced gimmicks like The Chase and stage racing. My seats at Daytona don’t exist anymore because they had to tear them down. That says it all.

I have to disagree @markmartin you told @NASCAR the complaints you hear most from former fans but they didn’t care and told you going back to a straight 36 race points championship wasn’t an option. You can call a pig pork, but it’s still a pig. The “Chase” is still made for TV playoffs to bunch up the pack, just like those phantom debris cautions they now call stage racing.

@danpriestley @markmartin @NASCAR @DAYTONA The “Chase” is just another name for playoffs. Any resetting of points to bunch up the pack is a disgrace. NASCAR doesn’t deserve any credit for not listening to it’s fanbase the last 20 years.

I was a long time subscriber to Winston Scene and Stock Car magazine and attended my local short track and NASCAR races religiously. But NASCAR has crapped on its fans for so long that I have no interest in it anymore and thus no reason to subscribe to the magazines I once cherished. It’s not a coincidence that NASCAR’s mismanagement and failings have brought down many of the smaller industries around it. My local short track closed a few years ago like so many because of dwindling attendance and rising costs. Ignore two generations of fans and take away the ability for grassroots drivers that built the sport to now gain entry and this is the result. NASCAR, INDY and NHRA all have blame for the slow death of motor sports in America, but so do the cheerleaders in the media who turned a blind eye to what was happening and told us everything was better than ever and not to believe our lying eyes.

No @Kenny_Wallace NASCAR CHANGED and after two decades of dumb format changes, COT’s, taking a leak on tradition and running off its core fans you say life changes? That sounds like a backhanded way blaming the fans.…No NASCAR isn’t to blame, we the fans are because we won’t waste our money or time watching this garbage. Why do cheerleaders like yourself @kylepetty @KyleLarsonRacin keep making excuses and saying dumb things like the Brickyard’s not a crown jewel race, races are too long and Life changes…..instead of saying NASCAR changed the sport for TV and it’s been a complete failure for two decades.

Every decision since Dale Sr. died has been based entirely on big TV contracts. The COT wouldn’t exist because Sr. was already very outspoken about the cars becoming too similar. He complained saying Why not just put us all in IROC cars. His death opened the door because NASCAR couldn’t be a big time TV sport whose biggest stars die on air, and they used it as the excuse.

The safer barrier and HANS device are great safety innovations but the COT had nothing to do with safety it was about controlling who could enter the sport. Gone are the days of guys working on a single car trying to make Daytona. Since Dale Sr died NASCAR has turned into identical bumper cars with shorter races, cookie cutter ovals, guaranteed starting spots, “franchise super teams”, TV timeouts, lapped cars back on the lead lap, no racing back to the line, overtime, resetting of points, chases, playoffs, segment racing and telling fans what flag they can fly or shirt they can wear at the track. After the HANS device and Safer Barriers nothing has to do with driver safety not even racing back to the line.

Other than the name NASCAR the sport would be unrecognizable to Dale Sr today and became unwatchable to the fans who supported it, grew it and filled the tracks….before they took the races from those tracks.

Don’t be a cheerleader @JebBurtonRacing be a voice for the fans. When the Daytona seats I sat in while proudly wearing my CAT 22 gear in 2002 at the “Super Bowl” of NASCAR had to be torn down something is wrong. NASCAR has had a serious problem spitting in the face of what was its fan base. I would much rather watch racing in South Boston than anything NASCAR is doing today. But always wish you much success.
