My thoracic spine was completely fused with two rods and 20+screws. I still have a curve in my lumber spine (but have retained flexibility). I woke uo from surgery in so much pain. The recovery was hard and painful. I was on heavy painkillers for 3 months.

And that I needed to get private health insurance so I could at least pick my surgeon. New X-rays and discussions and in 2017 I was booked in for spinal fusion.

Today is #ScoliosisAwarenessday and for kids with #scoliosis and #kyphosis stuck on massive wait lists across Australia - I’m sorry. Our public hospitals need to do better. It is scientifically proven that wait lists result in more extensive #fusion surgery.

While it is less common, boys get #scoliosis too!

Comments that only girls get it (which I had a physio tell me) make an already shameful and stigmatised condition worse for males.

Being told to stand up straight and stop slouching is not helpful to someone with #scoliosis. Just annoying. Maybe even hurtful.

Some experts have stated that #scoliosis doesn't cause pain. While that may be true for some, it minimises the reality for many.

Those experts are ignorant idiots and their patients deserve pity.

Heavy school bags suck. They don't cause #scoliosis but that doesn't change how much they suck and could cause back injuries, so let's do away with them.
