Well, in actuality you get a sense of when there might be a situation you need to monitor. Which is very rare. For example driving back from JFK to Massachusetts there was a road repair situation on the highway. Traffic was slow anyway, but then as we got close a guy raised an orange sign and FSD wanted to stop thinking it was a stop sign but I knew better and merely nudged tte accelerator. In a 3 hour drive that was the only thing I needed to do. So it's very relaxing doing all of the merging and exiting and navigating unfamiliar roads - truly miraculous, actually. The Taconic Parkway is too dangerous for humans- constant accidents- but FSD handles it beautifully.
Step 1: Remove filters in Reflecting Pool because Obama put them in.
Step 2: Give your criminal neighbor who runs "Greenwater Services" a $20 million no-bid contract to paint the pool.
Step 3: Fill the pool with water from the Potomac River, the phosphates from which cause algae blooms.
Step 4: Freshly sealed pool and extreme heat result in a super scum event
Step 5: Direct National Park Service to dump hydrogen peroxide into the pool which causes the paint to peel.
Step 5: Deploy US National Guard to stop people from taking photos of the swamp as a perfect metaphor for the administration.
Step 6: Blame someone else.
The irony of Republicans controlling all branches of government while
bankrupting the country, starting a war, sending money to fraudulent programs, violating the Constitution, giving corporations immunity...
but arguing that the biggest problem we have is “stolen elections.”
It very often sees people that I don’t. One thing though that annoys me is when it slows down for pedestrians at a crosswalk, but if they see a car coming at them they stop until the car stops, but FSD then interprets their stop as a “oh I guess I’ll go then” signal- mixed messages cause problems.
When we win, the first bill I’m filing is a comprehensive anti-corruption package:
Overturn Citizens United
Ban corporate PACs and super PACs
Ban members of Congress from trading stocks
Once we defeat the most corrupt politician in America, we can defeat this corrupt system.
I’ve been thinking a lot about the extraordinary outbursts of the President of the United States against female journalists... well, actually against journalists in general and journalism. But it feels like he saves his most childlike behavior and irrational language for female reporters, calling them all kinds of names that kids in kindergarten are given times out for. It’s stunning to me to witness such behavior from any leader, any CEO, any person of influence or importance. I’ve never witnessed someone like this raging, this weekend with @meetthepress host @kwelkernbc, just last week in the Oval Office with @cnn’s @kaitlancollins, calling women stupid or piggy, telling them to “smile”, calling them darling, demeaning their credibility. Every good man should denounce this behavior. Every person should be able to stand up for their colleagues and say “No more.”
Imagine this man screaming like this at your daughter, your wife, your sister, your mother... would you stand for it? No, you wouldn’t! And neither should any of us. It’s unacceptable and undignified. Period. End of story.
@DevinOlsenn Agree it overreacts. Mine did same with a chipmunk but I wasn’t going too fast. Even birds flying on nearby lawns cause some reaction (a quick hesitation but still annoying).
@Malephil1@healthyhvman The point is excessive consumption of carbs leads to metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes, and drinking OJ and other sugary beverages is part of the problem, regardless whether you might get a little vitamin C from the OJ
But AJ I think you are incorrect in stating that Tesla will never be at the point where Cybercabs will be drop and go. The issue they are dealing with now is not safety, it’s working out the edge cases and getting the reasoning ability into the car such that it won’t for example get stuck in an endless loop when thrown off by a construction site. As a daily FSD user I can tell you I’m 100% confident they will work these final issues out in a handful of months. They would not be hiring in various cities for robotaxi related jobs and building robotaxi cleaning centers unless they knew this would be solved soon.
I mostly feel the same though the latest version is too indecisive and causes occasional embarrassment eg slowing down for pedestrians at a crosswalk but when the pedestrians freeze waiting for the car to stop FSD decides they are not crossing and blows right through. Mixed messages increase danger.
@CernBasher That was an obvious need. Wish my MY Juniper had that set-up! I'm actually surprised they didn't start installing these years ago. Sometimes the best part is a new part which is vital to the car attaining its full capability.
Francis Fukuyama on the U.S. as a declining power:
American decline is a direct product of Trump's rise since 2016.
It is as if Trump had decided to do everything in his power to weaken the United States vis-à-vis China.
He has polarized an already polarized country, cut funding for basic scientific research, and attacked American universities which are the best in the world.
He and his colleagues have openly stated that their domestic opponents — the Democrats — are a far greater threat to the future of the United States than either China or Russia.
There is agreement among America's friends and rivals that the United States has become something of a rogue state that is contributing to global instability and disorder — as well as something of a laughingstock.
@wholemars Pause option for FSD to for example stop at a mailbox or to stop to speak to someone without having to disengage FSD- manual control until unpause, then FSD resumes
I am a US citizen, but I have never in my life been so disappointed with the US. The reasons are many:
1. The US people have elected a president who represent all the deadly sins. How could they do that? Are they so morally deprived?
2. Lying has been normalized. Trump made it the standard.
3. The US used to claim the non-partisan rule of law, but SCOTUS has been proven utterly corrupt & obedient to Trump.
4. The US used to boast about its checks and balances, but they don't exist. The republicans in Congress are obedient servants of one man.
5. The US used to oppose corruption, but the Trump crime family is probably the most corrupt ruling family in the world. How can SCOTUS & the republicans in Congress accept that?
6. The US used to be considered a democracy, but massive gerrymandering & voter discrimination make US elections not very democratic.
7. Reporters without Broders have rightly lowered the US to rank #64 in its sound World Press Freedom index. the US no longer has media freedom, because of extortion and oppression through defamation court cases.
8. The US used to be the security guarantee of the free world, but Trump only praises Xi Jingping, Putin, Lukashenko & Kim Jong Un.
Is the US able to extract itself from the Trump trap, in which it has fallen so deeply?
Jon Stewart: “We’re in the upside down. The Trump administration is a smash and grab on the American public. It is the most corrupt, utterly unsheathed, unleashed on us and they are just grabbing whatever they can and pretending that it’s remuneration for some victimhood they faced that’s all fictitious. It’s nonsense”
They didn't want to award the Capitol Police a medal or a plaque but want to reward the people who orchestrated and took part in the violence that injured me and ended my career. In the name of national reconciliation, they pardoned the same rioters who attacked us and now being rewarded for the violence they inflicted on us the officers.
They are trying to make the lives of the rioters whole or better than before they assaulted us. Yet to the officers, no apology, no compensation, no acknowledgment of the bravery and sacrifice we made to protect “each of your representatives” regardless of what party they belong.
Why did we risk our lives for then?
What a betrayal this is to us and to the rule of law days after “police week”.
