“Honestly, inside our dressing room nobody is thinking too much about who wins the Champions League final. If you reach that level, it means you are already one of the best teams in Europe, so either way we know it will be difficult.

But I think people still misunderstand Aston Villa a little bit. They still talk about us like we are just enjoying the ride or celebrating participation. That’s not the mentality Unai Emery has built here.

We already proved in the Europa League that we can compete under pressure, against big clubs, in difficult stadiums, with everybody expecting the other team to win. And honestly, those are the moments we enjoy the most.

Of course the Champions League winners will have world class players and more experience at that level, but finals are never only about names. Finals are about personality, concentration and who handles the pressure better on the night.

We are not going to the Super Cup to exchange shirts and admire the opponent. We are going there believing Aston Villa can beat anybody in one game. That confidence is the biggest thing this team has developed over the last year.”
