Michael Lomas, who admitted to his role in the R745 million Eskom corruption scheme, received a wholly suspended sentence under a deal with the IDAC. His Black co-accused, Maphoko Hudson Kgomoeswana, was sentenced to 5 years’ direct imprisonment for stealing R6 million.

Police Appeal for Urgent Public Assistance After 19-Year-Old Melanie Gunkel Disappears While on Her Way to Lusikisiki Hillbrow High School

Lusikisiki police are appealing to the community for assistance in locating missing 19-year-old Melanie Gunkel, of Gunyeni locality, Ngobozana A/A. She was last seen on Saturday, 1 August 2026, at about 07:00 while travelling to Lusikisiki Hillbrow High School. Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.

At the time of her disappearance, Gunkel was wearing her school uniform, consisting of a grey skirt and a navy jersey. Police have not released any additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

Anyone with information about Melanie Gunkel's whereabouts should contact Lusikisiki Detectives Head Colonel Elam Makhamba on 082 302 5118 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Mercy Ntsako Mashaba went missing after travelling to visit her boyfriend in Sunnyside, Tshwane, on 20 December 2020. She called her family to let them know she had arrived safely. However, the following day, her phone was switched off.

When her family contacted her boyfriend, he reportedly told them that Mercy had gone to the post office and never returned. A missing person case was opened at the Sunnyside police station. According to the family, they were later informed that investigators had obtained an arrest warrant after uncovering certain information, but the investigation eventually went cold.

Mercy has remained missing since December 2020, and her family is still searching for answers. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact 071 483 6611.

An illegal foreigner MAHBUM ALAN is wanted for the murder of an 18 year old South African girl.

The 18-year-old victim was last seen on Saturday, 25 July 2026 with the suspect, her boyfriend.

On Tuesday, 28 July 2026, police forced entry into a residence in Mountview Drive, Malabar, and discovered her body inside the house.
The suspect had reportedly travelled to Cape Town and is currently on the run.
