The Nobel committee's key line: "Peace requires justice."
It also says "the greatest powers have often evaded responsibility" and that judges are now being sanctioned and their institutions attacked.
A prize to a judge is a statement about the courts.

2016: the Security Council recommended António Guterres on 6 October (S/RES/2311).
2026: five straw polls in, no candidate with a clear path, and the presidency consulting on color-coded ballots that would show where P5 discourages fall.
Guterres's term ends 31 Dec.

When will the First Committee actually vote? The 81st-session timetable:
6–15 Oct: general debate
16–26 Oct: thematic clusters
27 Oct–3 Nov: action on drafts
So the recorded votes on nuclear, space and conventional arms texts all land in about one week.

US midterms, 26 days out. On the ballot Tue 3 Nov:
All 435 House seats
35 of 100 Senate seats (33 regular + 2 special)
36 governorships
The whole House resets every two years. Only about a third of the Senate does, so one map is national and the other is selective.
