Levantine Arabic for curtain بردایة burdāya / burdāye comes from Persian پرده parda / parde (poss via Turkish perde?) and though standard Arabic for curtain ستارة sitāra may at a first glance seem similar to Persian ستاره sitāra 'star', it is from the root س ت ر s t r 'to cover'

@a_a_viswanath Not sure if the same thing but I find it funny how the Arabic word “alkharshuf” became artichoke in European languages (via alcarchofa in Spanish), which itself was then adopted back in some Arabic dialects as “ardi-shoki” meaning “earthen pine” but is a totally made up word.
