@bencouraging The board has similar looking game play to the vintage Parker Bros. Game of the Fox and Hounds, which I grew up playing, but I have never seen this version.
Texas Republicans are trying to force public schools to display the Ten Commandments in every classroom.
I told the bill author: “This bill is not only un-constitutional and un-American, it’s deeply un-Christian.” #txlege
"I'm half a human now." A survivor of the U.S. torture at Abu Ghraib lives with what happened to him. He describes the shame and pain he lives with. This is the legacy of the Iraq war. A painful and necessary listen from @Rsherlock https://t.co/yfpKwR7IOa
@sheilagregoire 1. Did they not really read the book in its entirety and endorsed it out of obligation/favor/publicity?
2. Did they read and agree with it, but now don’t want to be associated with it because of the outcry?
@kevinmnye1 Reading it now with a group of moms from my church. Our discussions have been so good and challenging! We are also going through Subversive Witness as a church, too, and I will recommend everyone read them together. Thank you for writing such an important book.
@DavidAFrench My voting heuristic: Do you seem to be a decent human being. If so, then policies matter. If not, even if we agree on policies, forget about it
When we elect people who don't meet a low bar of basic human decency, we send the message that it does not matter.
That hurts society
Alabama tried and failed to execute Alan Miller by lethal injection on September 22nd. Prison workers stabbed him with needles over and over again for 90 minutes. Now Alabama wants another chance to kill Alan "as soon as possible." https://t.co/wJq6IM3BjR
The death penalty is less about those we condemn and more about our society. What does this horrible botched execution attempt say about us? Did this make Alabama any safer? Did it heal the victims' families? Did it deter any future crime? Or was it just barbaric torture?
@taylorsschumann Our dog would eat the meat and spit out the pill. We’ve had success w/ spray cheese in the can or pill pockets which are a little less messy, but more expensive. You can also get Zukes treats and just squish a few around a pill which is cheaper than pill pockets.
@grahamstinson Agreed! I studied a lot of the American eugenics stuff last year when I was teaching American History, but wish I would have had this documentary that ties it all together so well. Ken Burns is a gift.
@profsamperry We don’t live in a destination city either and my husband always says to people, “if you break down on the side of the road while your passing through, give us a call!”
@SteveSchmidtSES@nytimes I genuinely believe that elected and public officials should be barred from writing books for profit, and it should be a common practice among media outlets that journalists who write books like that in lieu of doing their job of reporting it first & immediately should be canned.
@kevinmnye1 There was a great article in the New Yorker a month or two ago about corruption in the LASD. It was the first I had heard of it and it was horrifying.
@RickSteves Used this for a 8th graders as a lead up to our WWII unit and it was great. I’m always shocked at the number of adults that don’t know the difference between fascism and communism, so I wanted that to be a main part of the unit.
