@marcinwolnynet@allenholub I think comparing software to a house only really works if you talk about stuff like setting up a WordPress page with a shop on it and then walk. Maybe some minor customizations on the theme, nothing more. Definitely possible to estimate this rather well if you do this often.
@Surfcrest@shrimpzoo Jeah right, because delivering a package late is definitely on the same level as crashing a plane with a few hundred passenger during the landing…
@allenholub I would argue that any hardware analogy somehow falls short for software… it is just way easier to change stuff, even foundations in software. You don’t do that with a house/car/boat. Why not just use software examples? People know software in 2022, no need for analogies anymore
@tsmith@UberEng Did the web/cloud solutions have any shortcomings for you on a greater scale? This seems cool but ultimately avoidable with the services around? What is the benefit of doing that inhouse?
@duckduckgouskos @Jovox64 @MikeCully@TashaMeece@ReadingEye@RepDeanPhillips You will bring a gun to a dronefigt or a gun to a media takeover. Guns will do shit against the government. I can stand behind the bear attack, however when was the last time a bear attacked you? I guess equally as often as school schootings, to render it a realistic thread?
@yanivnathan@EmmaBostian I would say it can not mimic that relationship at all. Just imagine that you have the chance of getting fired if you ask/say the wrong thing at any minute. Or that your manager is being switched out after one or two hours…
@MatthewEGunter@allenholub@CGLambdin I don’t know, would the solution be that everyone gets his own ride and a ticket is 10 million or however much you would have to charge to amortize a 1 minute wait time everywhere? ^^
@CFDevelop Mostly end to end integration tests, if you have multiple services. If this test layer is more of a smoke test and stays slim, it is okish. The dev experience with postman isnhorrible. If you have one service it is definitely not worth the hustle.
