Ave. holding periods for stock investors globally has fallen to about 10 months (@eToroUS). Investors must manage emotions by living through peaks and valleys of rolling period performance to improve chances of meeting long term goals. https://t.co/5kkCLI9xQS #IWI#investing
The latest from Hank Bessembinder: "Returns to 'Do-Nothing' Portfolios." A noteworthy finding is that recent outperformance of the largest stocks is atypical and portfolios of the largest stocks performed quite poorly over the full sample. https://t.co/irMfd3lNho

Over the past two decades, the rise in the percentage of the population choosing a Medicare Advantage Plan over Traditional Medicare has been nothing short of staggering. In 2007, for instance, less than 20% of Medicare enrollees were using an Advantage Plan. Today, it's more than half🤯
I think the widening wealth gap and the weakening of the middle class have a lot to do with this. The allure of an Advantage plan's "free" vision care, gym memberships, or dental coverage can be attractive to individuals who might otherwise struggle to pay for such "perks" in retirement.
But for those who can afford it, in most states, it's still hard to argue against going with Traditional Medicare w/ a quality Medigap policy. If - and, really, "when" for most - the time comes you need specialized care, you want to be able to pick the best doctor for you, not the doctor that just happens to be in your insurance network. You probably don't want to deal with preauthorizations either, especially when the insurance company has a built-in incentive to deny them.
Note: While you can always switch from Medicare Advantage to Traditional Medicare during Open Enrollment, outside of a few exceptions, in MOST states, you'll have to go through underwriting. And if you're switching back b/c of an issue that has already presented itself, you may not be able to get that Medigap policy. And without that, there's no out-of-pocket maximum, which probably means you'll be stuck with your Medicare Advantage plan forever!🫤
"A decade ago, about one-third of Medicare beneficiaries were enrolled in MA. By last year, 55%, or 35 million older adults and people with disabilities had signed up for managed care." https://t.co/wgUwjvBV27
Retirement spending patterns vary as retirees cross age-banding thresholds! A growing volume of research studying the actual spending habits of retirees is revealing that the traditional approach to saving for retirement may not be appropriate. Because as it turns out, retirees don’t actually maintain a stable lifestyle in retirement; instead, spending levels tend to decline (in real terms), as the retiree goes from the “Go-Go” early years of retirement, to the “Slow-Go” years, and eventually the “No-Go” years. #retirementplanning #advicers https://t.co/nZsWspvNld

Social Security turns 90 today! The nation’s bedrock retirement program provides income to about 70 million beneficiaries. But it is in desperate need of bipartisan congressional intervention to ensure it can continue to pay full promised benefits to current and future retirees.
The fact that winners can gain more than losers can lose is one of the many reasons I’m so optimistic about investing in public markets. - David Booth
