@meghanmeenan This is the perfect example of mediated sport that can disqualify, amplify, and glorify all in one episode. I think shows like that with a higher reality level can amplify things that people might not pay attention to. #SRM3224#group1
@zachlindner27 House of Highlights can be a major example of this glorification of highlights.
It has gained major success and popularity similar to ESPN. This is how many of us see sports content today on a consistent basis.

@meghanmeenan@zachlindner27 I think this is what puts the result into the spectators and audience’s hands to decipher what is then perceived and looked at as amplification or disqualification. Completely agree that it revolves around the culture of the sport. #SRM3224#group1
@meghanmeenan@zachlindner27 I think it absolutely has to do with the the culture of the sport. However players like Anthony Davis and Kawhi Leonard, have been victims of disqualification mediating in this aspect. These athletes are hurt, and constant clowned and shamed for that #srm3224
@zachlindner27 I’ve seen a debate with glorification in hockey with players battling through serious injuries because they want to play for their team, whereas some basketball players sit out because they have a cramp. #srm3224
@zachlindner27@DarrenTuj48486 I think this is what ties into what we talked about in class which would be ambush marketing. That repetition and overload linked to amplification is what brings popularity to an individual or brand. #SRM3224#group1
A recent example of athlete disqualification is Deshaun Watson. He quickly became one of, if not the most, hated players in the NFL and I feel like majority of NFL fans won’t let up anytime soon #srm3224#group1
@zachlindner27 I agree, highlights are the epitome of amplification. The whole purpose of highlights is to showcase the positives and the best plays. Over time highlights have become saturated online, and actually don't show the full story. #SRM3224#group2
@DarrenTuj48486 I also feel like reputation and repetition through the media can add onto the amplification of certain sporting events including this fights. If you keep seeing it again then you’ll be more inclined to check it out. #SRM3224#group1
I was definitely going to hit on this. But something that I would add would be how mediated sports is able to change the narrative for sports or athletes in a blink of an eye. You can be bashed
and hated one game and then loved the next.
You also see a lot of glorification of sports through highlights. A player can have one or two big plays in a game and you'll see it all over social media being praised even if they might not have done anything else in their game. #srm3224#group1
I think the NFL’s choice to crack down on something along with promote it is to feed into the desires of two known audiences that engage in football. I feel like this disqualification is what amplifies gambling to others. #SRM3224#group1
I’ve seen some mixed reactions around this. Some saying how it’s ridiculous the NFL promotes gambling but then punishes players for doing so. With others saying how can these players break the rules after the Calvin Ridley situation/the rules being very clear #srm3224#group1
@ItsGetz_ I think Bleacher Report, is a huge example of using social media to not only amplify their information but also glorify the athletes featured as well. Using it as a resource to promote can also decrease the amount of disqualification as well. #SRM3224#group1
@Zach_Brennan2 This is a huge example. But I want to pose a question. He was automatically disqualified and so was Kyrie. But is it possible that Kyrie’s incident is now glorifying him because he is winning and a consistent player? #SRM3224#group1
@zachlindner27 I highly support this response! I think understanding how mediated sport can be a way to shed light on things, allows for it to boost awareness and build an audience from all over. #SRM3224#group1
Nike is the most glorified sports brand out here. They are now getting hate due to the collaborations with athletes who are sponsored by them by connecting their personal stands and opinions to the company. This is a perfect example of how social media can play. #SRM3224#group1
