Students often believe they’re only good at certain subjects. I always share: we all have ~86 billion neurons. Einstein had 86B, you have 86B. Finding (insert subject) hard? It doesn’t define your potential. Your brain is powerful! #Mindset

The first few days of teaching in Ireland were eye-opening. What stood out?

Most student says ‘thank you’ at the end of class—something I hadn’t seen before.

This small act builds a culture of appreciation.

Struggling with student engagement in language classes? Unlock the secret to supercharging their focus and understanding of language learning in just a few steps.

Day 1: Threw them a curveball with “Ngjyra ime e preferuar është e kuqe” (My favorite color is red) in Albanian. The intrigue? Palpable.

Day 2 challenge: Reproduce the Albanian phrase. Result? A striking lesson in the importance of active engagement for memory retention.

Day 3: Shifted gears to Korean with “내가 가장 좋아하는 색은 빨강색이다.” A lesson in visual learning and the power of diverse strategies.

Day 4: Write the Korean phrase and try and pronounce it. The Korean phrase solidified it: Active learning isn’t just useful; it’s essential for cementing knowledge.

Wrapped up with “Mi color favorito es rojo” in Spanish. Student were so eager to show off their knowledge and had a smile on their face.The takeaway? Engagement + practice + context = Unstoppable learning.

Conclusion: This wasn’t just a language lesson; it was a masterclass in learning. Students left not just better at Spanish but with a deeper understanding of how to learn. Hopefully a little less complaining about HW too.

Action step: Transform your language classes from monotonous to mesmerizing. Start with compelling phrases in unexpected languages and watch as student engagement soars. It’s not just about language; it’s about igniting a passion for learning through active engagement.

I like this question! Most of my education in English, so i tend to take notes in English. I’m more technical when I think in English. Raised speaking Spanish/English, went to college for Spanish & now a Spanish teacher. I’m influenced by Latin cultural norms when I switch to Spanish.
