I still remember the day I called Telus to cancel my cable, and the lady casually asked why, or perhaps they're instructed to ask why, but I let her know, with a polite 30 second rant...

I said television has become unwatchable.
The News lies, late night comedy isn't funny anymore, commercials are unbearable and depict people, and especially men as infantile morons who couldn't get through a day if not for the guidance of their eye rolling, but supportive wife who loves them anyways despite how stupid they are.

I can't remember the last time I had a Calgary Flames watch party with a group of friends made up of my black buddy with his Asian wife, my Indian neighbour with his white girlfriend, my two gay best friends, and the Muslim couple from across the street...it's all fake and it turns people's brains into mush. She giggled a little and said well you do seem to have your reasons.

I told her to get rid of everything but the sports package so I can at least watch a Flames game, but I can't watch them live. I record them all so that I can watch later and fast forward through all the commercials, and I don't have to listen to Ron freaking MacLean tell me how Nigerian hockey moms really make the hockey world go round.

TV has become almost alien to me. I can't stand even being in a room with one, and I remember the days of having the TV on all day just as background noise that kind of kept me company.

So I chose to pay for YouTube and X premium, so that I can watch what I want, when I want, commercial free, plus I can create silly little memes post stories, satirical takes on life, and get a satisfying dopamine hit every time somebody likes one of my tweets. 🤨

So yeah, I quit TV to save my brain… now I just doomscroll X instead. Same addiction, cleaner interface.
