My One-Term, Four-Year Vow Is Sacrosanct

One of the greatest American Presidents, Abraham Lincoln, served only four years, yet his legacy endures as a model of principled leadership. Another iconic figure, John F. Kennedy, did not even complete a full term, yet his vision and ideals continue to inspire generations. In Africa, Nelson Mandela, revered globally as a symbol of justice and reconciliation, chose to serve only one term as President of South Africa, despite immense public pressure to stay longer. His decision was a deliberate act of leadership, a statement that power must serve the people, not the self. Indeed, history shows that the longer many African leaders remain in power, the more likely they are to be corrupted by it. Longevity in office is not a mark of success; rather, it is purposeful, accountable service - however brief - that defines true statesmanship.

It is within this context that I reiterate my vow: I will serve only one term of four years if elected President. And that vow is sacrosanct.

I am fully aware that the decay in our society has made trust one of the scarcest and most sceptically viewed commodities. Many Nigerians, understandably, no longer take politicians at their word. But even in this climate of cynicism, there are still a few whose actions have matched their words - whose integrity is built on verifiable precedent.

Recently, I became aware of two statements aimed, albeit indirectly, at my vow to serve only a single four-year term. One person remarked that even if I swore by a shrine, I still wouldn’t be believed. Another suggested that anyone talking about doing only one term should undergo psychiatric evaluation.

I understand the basis of their scepticism. They are judging me by their own standards - where political promises are made to be broken. But they forget, or perhaps choose to ignore, that Peter Obi is not cut from that cloth. I have a verifiable track record that speaks louder than speculation.

In my political life, my word is my bond. When I entered politics in Anambra State, I made clear and measurable promises to the people: to improve education and healthcare, to open up rural areas through road construction, and to manage public funds with prudence. I fulfilled each of those promises without deviation. I did not swear by a shrine, nor have I been certified mentally unstable as a result of honouring my word.

My vow to serve only one term of four years is a solemn commitment, rooted in my conviction that purposeful, transparent leadership does not require an eternity.

If making such a promise qualifies me for psychiatric evaluation, then we may as well question the mental fitness of those who framed our Constitution, which clearly stipulates a four-year renewable tenure.

I maintain without equivocation: if elected, I will not spend a day longer than four years in office. In fact, I believe that service should be impactful, not eternal.

We must rebuild trust in our country. I have dedicated my public life to demonstrating that leadership with integrity is not a myth. I have done it before, and I do not intend to betray that trust under any circumstances.

Forty-eight months is enough for any leader who is focused and prepared to make a meaningful difference. In that time, I intend not merely to make an impression, but to deliver on concrete promises to:

sanitise our governance system;
tackle insecurity through effective and accountable use of national resources; prioritise education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation;
catalyse small businesses as engines of growth ; and combat corruption with unflinching resolve.

Above all, I will dedicate myself to transforming Nigeria from a consuming nation into a productive one, where agriculture, technology, and manufacturing replace rent-seeking and waste as our national anchors.

These are not utopian dreams. They are realistic, actionable goals that are achievable within four years.

In November 2022, while campaigning in Delta State, the then APC Presidential Candidate, Bola Tinubu, now the President, berated the other Presidential Candidate (Peter Obi), he was ashamed to call his name, saying "Na statistics we go chop all I want is to put food on the table of Nigerians”.

Now 2 years into his 4-year tenure, Nigeria is classified as one of the hungriest nations in the world with millions of Nigerians not knowing where their next meal will come from.

President Tinubu is now overfeeding Nigerians with wrong Statistics from wrong unemployment figures, wrong inflation figures, and now GDP rebasing, all to put a positive spin on our deteriorating economic and household conditions.

Governance is not a rocket science, it's not a gamble, like I have always reiterated, it requires sincerity of purpose, character, competence, capacity and compassion.

I wrote my UTME in 2017 i used to obtain admission to study Civil Engineering and graduated from Federal University of Akure (FUTA, 2024). I wrote my last paper in December 2023, and did final clearance In May 2024. The issue is this: since May 2024 NYSC has refused to Mobilize me for NYSC reason been that JAMB irregularly denied my admission and tagged it as "Fake Admission" upon graduation and after spending 6.5 yrs in UNI. They also prevented me from accessing my personal JAMB portal claiming I have no details with them. In an effort to proof the validity of my admission and debunk their false allegation, I visited the nearest JAMB office with all my valid documents (including my JAMB result, JAMB and school admission letters). Unfortunately I got no positive response rather than look deeply and see what went wrong I was threatened of been paraded by DSS and handed over to police for further investigation (which they layer did) and I played along by voluntarily submitting myself knowing fully well I passed through the regular admission screening just as my mates and my admission was not rigged whatsoever. With high hopes this will convince them it might be a likely error or mixup on their part. Far from my expectation since June 2024 that the matter has be reported at their office in Akure and the series effort by my school Admission Office to reach out to JAMB and convince them of the genuineness of my admission yet JAMB stood their ground and blatantly said its Fake and unrecognized. They frustrated all queries, letter by my school and yielded no response. This is causing me great pain, mental distortion as my career is now in jeopardy. I have tried all my possible best like been to JAMB HQ in Bwari, been to Brekete Family, even Public Complaint commission office but it seems the conspiracy in this matter is deeper than they want to handle. But I am doing this in great hope and as my last resort, based on the vital role you played of a recent on this year UTME saga, that you should kindly help me look into the matter.

Please advice me and save me from the bureaucracy been perpetuate by JAMB causing me great emotional distress, career setback. Kindly note that I posses all documents to proof my claims. Thank you for your help and due considerations in advance.

He was invited for a meeting on the 10th of September 2024 by the Navy at Iwofe aker base Port Harcourt he didn't come back that day.
On the 11th he called his wife that he was coming back home with some Naval officials. But he didn't come back, the wife called but his number wasn't available till the end of that day.
On the 12th his wife went to naval office herself. They told her to go to the police station and report that he's missing. She said NO, that her husband told her he was in their custody.
They sent her away.

Only for him to call with a naval officer's phone to say that he's been held at Navy. She took food to him and spoke with him same day. But they didn't allow her to see him, he was talking to her from another office or cell nobody knows

It went on and on till His community wrote a letter to the NBA that their son is in Naval custody.
Two weeks later human rights advocate and some NBA members went to Naval base but they denied he wasn't there. Humanrights invited the wife to follow them again to Naval base on reaching there they said she should go and come on a Monday but the woman protested that she won't go anywhere that they've been holding her husband for 3weeks If he committed any crime he should be charged to court. They denied that there was no record of him.

The wife said "so who is the person i spoke to and brought food for twice in this same place?who ate the food?" That was when Mr Eko with this phone number 08035362486 said that Barr Kevin has been moved to Abuja. With no crime been stated. That she should call him (Mr Eko) so that he will give information of where they moved him to in Abuja. Only for her to call as instructed he said he has been moved to Abuja that's all he knows.
Till date no information of his way about since September 10th till today the 26th of Dec 2024.

In-between they haven't backed down they've been on the case, the community where he came from has written a petition to NBA to help get back their son, the wife have been frequenting naval office. The children have been crying and asking for their dad. The wife has partial blindness, she has been managing her eyes like that for months now. Barr Kevin is a source of support to his family. We don't know if he is dead or alive. The only clue we have is Naval base Iwofe Port Harcourt.
