STEELHEADS SUNDAY IS OFFICIALLY HERE. Major League Baseball history will be made at T-Mobile (@TMobilePark) today when the Seattle Mariners (@Mariners) wear the iconic 1946 Seattle Steelheads uniforms at today’s game and every Sunday home game this season.
When the Mariners made this groundbreaking announcement in January, they partnered with Converge Media to share the news. Produced by Omari Salisbury (@Omarisal) and creative director Francisco Lopez, and with videographer Mat Bermudez (mathewbermudez), producer Erik Kalligraphy (@kalligraphy), and production assistant Mead Gill, the announcement carried unfounded weight in recognizing Black history in the Northwest.
The Mariners are the first MLB team to add a Negro League jersey to their regular season rotation, a tribute that honors the legends who built the city’s baseball soul, including the Seattle Gophers, the Royal Giants, and the championship-winning women of the Owls Club. By wearing the Steelheads uniform, the players are bringing the spirit of 1946 back to the Emerald City.
To ensure this legacy continues, the Mariners have launched the Steelheads Community Fund, a $500,000 commitment dedicated to supporting local Black youth baseball and softball organizations.
Respect the past, own the future. Sundays are for the Steelheads.
Today’s historic Steelheads Sunday game is happening today at 4:20 p.m. at T-Mobile Park. Get your tickets at https://t.co/JQoqll8rnB
