@CiteCase@monteskw Bhuyan J was speaking at the closing of a moot court on voting rights and the ECI. His comment was relatively abstract.
This is like saying a judge shouldn’t speak on the importance of protecting free speech because Supreme Court is adjudicating that issue on judicial side!!
@sone_do_mujhe The worst was when Bhagchi J was elevated as CJI "because" there was none from Calcutta HC who has been CJI since the infamous Altamas Kabir.
There is no separate "Central" roll for Parliament and "State" roll for State Assemblies. The ECI maintains a single electoral roll used for both Loka Sabha & Vidhana Sabha elections.
A separate roll does exist for local body elections (Panchayats/Municipalities) managed by SECs
Most people don't even know that something as basic as state and central voter rolls is different. So let us say you move from UP to Maharashtra. Your name stays on the UP roll, and you also appear on the Maharashtra roll. Now tell me, should you be allowed to vote in both states? The whole idea behind this SIR is to create one list. Name duplication will run into the crores in our country. Almost all my workers have voted in Maharashtra (Navi Mumbai) and UP for years. I used to find it perplexing. They liked it because it used to get them money. These are realities. The fact that the SIR got delayed so much is something you should question the centre about. But in India, we question the centre about the exact opposite.
Protests of this scale happen precisely because those established systems "laws, established systems, Courts, Parliament" have failed, or become politically compromised or are inaccessible!!
Armed insurgents seek to violently overthrow the state and dissolve the constitution. While here, the Citizens are protesting on the streets are doing the exact opposite... they are demanding that the state fulfill its constitutional duties & address their grievances.
This is the very logic that give fillip to proponents of anarchists Choubey Sir . In that case we should have succumbed to armed Naxals or secessionists also . There are laws , established systems , Courts , Parliament . Also there is chaos on the road . We too travel daily .
@GauthamMachaiah A week before The Indian Express’s now-famous investigation into the ECI, it had published a detailed exposé on the KPSC scam, of how both parties in have been conniving to protect each other..
@Rezang_La He seems to be fair judge to me though.
He has protected BJP leaders against BRS in Telangana, Arnab Goswami in Bombay HC, his bench ordered Netflix to change the title of the movie “Ghooskhor Pandat” & cautioned against vilifying a particular community.. :)
It is not mandatory to vote. It is not mandatory to register to vote. But all citizens have the right to vote. If you put these three together, it should be obvious that one person's right to vote is not in any way connected to whether their father or mother had such a right decades ago or exercised it.
All the EC needs is one's own documents to register to vote. And if a person has already done that to get on the roll earlier, it is silly to first delete them and then ask them to do it again simply because their father was not on the roll eons ago.
As a result, in searching for everyone's fathers, the EC has itself been the father of needless harassment. And for this madness, they pulled hundreds of thousands of teachers out of schools and made them conduct an exercise that has nothing to do with their jobs, while the students who depend on them were left in the lurch.
The whole exercise is a disgrace.
@drpraveenpsy Anyone who reads his autobiography wil see a man who lived his Hindu faith FAR MORE DEEPLY than we ever could..
He translated the Gita, relied on Rama-Naama through every struggle & died saying 'Hey Ram' - surely can't be called anti-Hindu!
Most of the hate is hindsight analysis
@sumanthraman Most of these doctors on night duty in government hospitals are overworked residents, usually working continuously since the previous morning.
@DineshDrushya I'm from some 60 km south of Bangalore, during childhood days, people didn't cook non-vegetarian food in the main kitchen. It was cooked outside the home or at place of house not connected the main part of home. This practice is receding (for good)
