Anne promoted the “Centre” on a CBC special in 1989 and it only took 27 years but I finally visited in 2016—an almost 3 hour detour from a work-related trip to Fredericton NB. And in classic Walley World fashion, it wasn’t yet open for the season but the staff let me in anyway 🙏🏽

@jk124k @10lbhammerbp And this song is a perfect example. Arguably the most un-country Country #1 ever, it’s expertly produced, sounds more like Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now and Don’t Dream It’s Over.

My hunch: it’s the tipping point single that effectively ended the Urban Cowboy/country-pop 80s era.

@jk124k @10lbhammerbp It’s a fascinating career. Her biggest ‘crossover’ successes arrived 10 years after her debut when she was pushed into the country division at Capitol. You get the impression she never wanted to be a country act, despite the genre serving as foundation amid her 70s & 80s peak.
