In 1679, Aurangzeb abolished some 80 taxes and reimposed Jizya tax on non-Muslims, which was levieds in the following manner:

Rich income class (earning over 2,500 rupees p.a.) paid 0.52% at max (or 13 rupees)

Middle income class (earning from from 250 to 2,499 rupees p.a.) paid between a range of 2.6% at max and 0.26% min (or 6.5 rupees)

Lower income class (earning from 52 to 249 rupees p.a.) paid between a range of 6.25% at max and 1.3% at min.

If a person owned no property and his income from labour did not exceed his and his family's necessities, jizya was not be charged from him.

Women, slaves, children below fourteen, blind men, cripples, lunatics, beggars and paupers.

Given, Jizya was a head-count tax, around minimum 40% of the Empire's non-M population (i.e., females) was exempted from the tax (after accomodating female infanticide prevalent in the society).

According to the 1901 Census, 19.5% of all Hindu males were under 15 years of age. This suggests that, during the reign of Aurangzeb (much lower life expectancy), boys below the age of 14 could easily have constituted around 20% of the total non-M population.

Then there is absolutely no idea of how much of non-Ms earned below 52 rupees per annum (4.3 r.p.m.).

But, we do have 1971 assesment which was based strictly on adequate food consumption (2,250 calories/day) and found out that 41% (counted per head) of India's population was poor.

Since this assessment wass based solely on food requirements without incorporating other costs of living, it provides a particularly conservative and therefore reliable basis for comparison.

I am sure, it would have been much much higher in the 17th-18th century, comfortable at 50%, we remove 60% (females sand under 14 boys) share, leaving us with a share of 20%.

Adding all these together, we arrive at a minimum estimate of 80% of the non-Ms being exempt from Jizya.

(this is a greatly underestimated share)

Then, we have no way of knowing the number of people earning above 52 but unable to support family needs, slaves (they constituted a significant section), blind and crippled men, lunatics, beggars and paupers.
