I wasted 4-5 months of my life.
Not on parties. Not on Netflix.
On FAANG prep. Grinding DSA every single day.
While slowly letting my actual skills rot.
Here's what nobody tells you about that obsession ๐งต
Now I'm unlearning that.
Good dev work is real work.
Startups are real experience.
Shipping is a real skill.
The grind I did before FAANG prep?
That was never worthless. I just stopped seeing it.
And then I didn't get it.
No FAANG offer.
Months of grinding. And nothing.
The worst part wasn't the rejection.
It was realizing I had quietly told myself that everything I built before โ didn't matter.
For 4-5 months I did nothing but:
โ Leetcode
โ System design videos
โ Mock interviews
โ More Leetcode
My dev skills? Paused.
My projects? Abandoned.
My confidence in what I was actually good at? Gone.
I was a good developer.
Shipping features. Solving real problems.
Actually building things people used.
But I convinced myself โ
"Startup work doesn't count. It's not real success."
So I stopped caring about it. Big mistake.
I work at a startup.And every single day I wonder โ
am I missing out on DSA-heavy product companies? But when I think about switching, I fear losing what I have here. This FOMO loop is exhausting. And I don't know how to get out of it ๐ฎโ๐จ๐งต
