Why pay for Descript?

I made a free transcription app.

It uses on device processing and exports in a mad amount of formats

Nothing is saved to the cloud

It can process a 4m30s video file (270mb) in under 8 seconds and can do GOOD enough speaker detection.

What’s really fun is I made this because I didn’t want to pay for Descript and didn’t want to waste AI credits on audio processing because that’s heavier than writing out lines of code

So will be free because it can be - and was made with journos and content creators in mind.

I made a fully offline, no-AI, transcription app that uses iOS 27’s on-device models to do real-time transcription.

It can also take a 250mb video file (4k video) and transcribe that in under 5 seconds.

Everything is saved locally, output in multiple formats; video/audio files also have VTT/SRT output.

And it’s going to be completely free in September when iOS 27 launches.
