Israel must immediately repeal the discriminatory death penalty law passed today by the Knesset, as it contravenes Israel’s obligations under international law.
The United Nations opposes the death penalty under all circumstances. The implementation of this new law would violate international law's prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading punishment.
Additionally, this law further entrenches Israel’s violation of the prohibition of racial segregation and apartheid as it will exclusively apply to Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Israel, who are often convicted after unfair trials.

Special Service of Gratitude: Congregations Gather Around the World

On the night of December 31, the Houses of Prayer of The Light of the World faith were filled with believers and visitors. During a service of praise and gratitude to God, the year 2025 was brought to a close and the new year was welcomed; one that, according to the apostolic promise of prosperity, will bring countless blessings.

At 11:00 p.m., a letter from the Apostle of Jesus Christ, Naasón Joaquín García, was read, conveying a message of blessing and spiritual strength. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the congregation departed with fraternal embraces and heartfelt wishes for both spiritual and material well-being.

I welcome the announcement of an agreement to secure a ceasefire & hostage release in Gaza, based on the proposal put forward by @POTUS. I commend the diplomatic efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt & Türkiye in brokering this desperately needed breakthrough.

I urge all concerned to abide fully by the terms of the agreement. All hostages must be released in a dignified manner. A permanent ceasefire must be secured. The fighting must stop once & for all. Immediate & unimpeded entry of humanitarian supplies & essential commercial materials into Gaza must be ensured. The suffering must end.

The @UN will support the full implementation of the agreement & will scale up the delivery of sustained & principled humanitarian relief, and we will advance recovery & reconstruction efforts in Gaza.

I urge all stakeholders to seize this momentous opportunity to establish a credible political path forward towards ending the occupation, recognizing the right to self-determination of the Palestinian people, leading to a two-state solution to enable Israelis & Palestinians to live in peace & security.

The stakes have never been higher.
