Ted Williams flew 39 combat missions, his plane was hit by enemy gunfire on at least three occasions, Williams was formally discharged from active duty on July 28, 1953 because of reoccurring viruses. He also hit a .407 avg after returning in August of 1953 playing in 37 games.
