The Dutch and Lebanese relationship goes back centuries.🇳🇱🇱🇧
This artwork is based on an original depiction of Tripoli, Lebanon, by Cornelis de Bruijn, the Dutch traveler, painter, and illustrator who visited the Levant in the late 1600s. The scene has been reimagined in the warm tonal style of Jan Josefsz. van Goyen, bringing color and atmosphere to de Bruijn’s historical sketch.
It highlights Tripoli’s traditional architecture with Mount Lebanon rising in the background, reflecting the deep historical ties between the Netherlands and Levant.
