This week, @AWF_Official was honored to host the PeaceNexus Foundation Cross-Country Exchange and Learning Workshop at our Nairobi headquarters.
In my opening remarks, I reminded participants of a truth we cannot afford to ignore: if conservation ignores conflict, it will fail. But if we address conflict with sensitivity, conservation can become a force for peace, cohesion, and prosperity.
At AWF, conflict sensitivity has been at the heart of our 2030 Vision. Through our partnership with PeaceNexus Foundation, we have trained teams, developed standard practices, and created platforms that are transforming the way rangers, communities, and conservation leaders engage with one another. The result is stronger trust, reduced human-wildlife conflict, and more inclusive approaches to land use.
Conservation, at its best, is more than safeguarding wildlife, but it is laying the groundwork for peace, resilience, and shared prosperity.
Last week, @AWF_Official hosted the #AWFWestAfricanJournalism Workshop in Kinshasa, focusing on enhancing positive #African conservation storytelling.
At AWF, we understand the power of storytelling and journalists' pivotal role in shaping narratives, influencing public opinion, and driving positive change.
West Africa's rich biodiversity, unique ecosystems, and wildlife face increasing threats from #deforestation, poaching, #climatechange, and unsustainable development practices. The media serve as vital conduits of information, raising awareness, educating the public, and holding stakeholders accountable.
By empowering #FourthEstate with the knowledge, tools, and networks necessary to report on #conservation issues effectively, we aim to enhance the quality and impact of #environmentaljournalism in #WestAfrica and across the continent.

People centered conservation in Zambezi Valley is a reality today, and let's hope that the complaints management mechanism set up by @AWF will bring all partners together to achieve peaceful cohabitation by respecting each other's rights.
