Today is the anniversary of St. Louis' First official Pride walk! April 20th 1980 was a "Walk for Charity" during the first Lesbian and Gay Pride week.
It's kind of funny cause I'm looking at a collection of photos from an event ran by Wired Woman, a queer women's group who highlighted women artists and put on shows, and I'm wearing gloves to go through someone's party pics to use in a school tour
Y'all I'm freaking geeking out. I've gotten to explore photo collections today in our LGBTQ+ collection and happened to be here on a day that a bunch of unprocessed boxes donated to the collection are out and I get a peek. So many good artifacts for my queer history tour
At least on the internet/in digital collections. I'm in education and don't specialize in archival research but neither does the average person googling so think about how this reinforces bias
Wow I love it when you are doing research on historical black neighborhoods that were systematically destroyed and can only find images of blight instead of pictures of what the communities were!
There are some things we want to see how people think on their feet but for most we want to see a thought out answer of how they would thoughtfully approach the task
@emmiekell We did the de escalation training that they usually show in hospitals. It was online and we didn't do the whole course just bought the section that were relevant. It was like maybe 5 hours total? If that?
I feel like people are always like how do you help someone in grief or during a bad time and while this might not work for all but for people who struggle with it, esp neuro divergent peeps, this was the most amazing thing I never thought to ask for.
I've been grieving this week and one of the kindest things someone did that I've never thought to offer was they came over put Elly's things in storage and cleaned my apartment. It was so nice coming home to a clean place
