@AbolishEton Not really. The rich still go there, or use those state schools that look like private schools in the catchments that only they can afford.
@MartinSLewis The significant difference between energy and water is customers get a choice between energy providers so they are incentivised to do better by competition.
We've no indications that a state-run energy provider would be more efficient than a private one in a competitive market.
@jackthurlow27 Is this the reality you made up, where schools have been overcharging parents by 20% (plus increased business council tax rates and employer NI) all along?
@AliArthPainter@Row2501 When it's disproportionate it is. When that harms kids it is.
There are more rich families using state schools with plenty of spare cash. Great state schools, not sink ones. Those families ARE subsidised by taxpayers.
@AliArthPainter@NoEducationTax@Row2501 ...said as if the post you've replied to had no words.
The point is the state doesn't, and should be spending its time fixing that not distracting with a personal ideological policy that will do nothing to help.
@AliArthPainter@Row2501 Wrong. You assume incorrectly. Plenty of private schools are cheap, or alternative, or religious, or focus on arts or sport, or provide necessary boarding...
Opportunities for those who can't afford fees are hit by this policy.
Many children cannot access great state schools.
@AliArthPainter@chloembroidery Nothing about the education tax policy is going to make anything better for state schools.
They will include more children but that's not an improvement as there's no extra money/resources for that.
@ToriVillar76624@philshall@kelvmackenzie No, I'm being factual. If the mother is not married to the dad and the dad bought the ipads and the mother removed the ipads from his home then that is theft.
Of course it's down to the police to use reasonable judgement. But the mother lying to them didn't help.
@itto13bitty@Lol19559014@daveatherton@SurreyPolice Well we keep complaining that they don't handle 'petty' thefts so they have some numbers to make up, this one with a middle aged teacher lady seemed a nicer job than smashing the door of a squat of lads with stolen laptops who might get lary.
Just a guess π€·
@MartynJohn50532@reformparty_uk Yeah... also they probably have no idea such a service might exist. Same with benefits to make up for the winter fuel allowance change, they're just not applying.
Charging to help is an AH action... quietly make sure the neighbours know!
@ToriVillar76624@philshall@kelvmackenzie That would be a call for social services and I suspect the bar is way higher than 'lets them not do their homework'. It doesn't excuse theft.
Reporting it is indeed petty, and seems an odd one for the police to pick out of all the stolen/tracked devices they ignore.
@itto13bitty@Lol19559014@daveatherton@SurreyPolice From another article:
https://t.co/qpEVov2Cra
Who paid for them is crucial... I suspect if the mother paid it wouldn't have been raised.
Unless she's a fence this is indeed a martial drama.
Odd response, I know people have watched their stolen Macs whilst the police shrug.
@philshall@ToriVillar76624@kelvmackenzie Perhaps dad has parental account access and can see the locations.
If he bought them, and the ex took them from his house, technically it is theft.
We complain and complain about the police not taking crimes seriously and as the one time they do... π
@ExpatCayman@kelvmackenzie ...assuming ex... perhaps the dad bought the ipads and suspects the mother might never give them back? Or keep them at her house to lure the kids over?
