One of the Baha’is taken during a raid in #Yemen by #Houthi gunmen, on 25 May, is Ahmad Al Malahi who has a life-threatening condition. His health has worsened in detention, and he must be released and treated before it becomes too late. The Houthis are responsible for his life.
EU Heads of Mission are deeply concerned at the recent detention of 17 members of the Baha’i community in Sana’a, including 5 women. They should be released, as well as other members of the Baha’i community detained previously. (1/2)
A powerful statement by the Heads of Mission of the EU in #Yemen calling upon the #Houthis to release the Baha'is detained solely because of their religious beliefs. They must be released immediately!
Thank you @USEmbassyYemen for condemning the raid on a peaceful #Bahai gathering in #Yemen. We urge the Houthis to release the 17 detainees and respect the Freedom of Religion or Belief for all Yemeni citizens.
Seven days since 17 #YemeniBahais, incl 5 women, were forcibly disappeared after armed #Houthis stormed a peaceful gathering. For 7 days families anxiously await news. Among those left behind is a toddler bereft of his parents. The Houthis must release the Baha’is immediately.
“Yemeni Bahá’ís want to serve their country, to help it overcome its current challenges, and work towards advancing its peace and prosperity. How tragic that, at this propitious moment, the Houthi authorities choose to act in this shameful way.”
“…violent raid on a peaceful gathering of Bahá’ís in Sanaa…detaining and forcibly disappearing at least 17 people, including five women. The raid leaves the Yemeni Bahá’ís reeling from the latest blow to a severely persecuted…community…” https://t.co/mciVPuZATs
“The international community must now do all it can and demand the #Houthis to respect the human rights of all #Yemeni citizens, starting with the release of these 17 or more innocent Bahá’ís arrested in this violent, unjustifiable raid.”
BREAKING
#Yemen: Armed #Houthi gunmen stormed a peaceful #Bahai annual general meeting in Sanaa today, after years of persecution, detaining at least 17 including 5 women. Other homes also raided. Yemeni Baha’is on Zoom captured this video.Details and our statement to follow
Excited to have OPA's, @pjandrews19, join the @AspenReligion in this endeavor. “The oneness of humanity is the pivot round which revolve all the teachings of the Bahá’í Faith...a statement of principle and an assertion of the ultimate goal of human experience on the planet.
“…de facto #Houthi authorities are…doubling down on the #persecution of religious minorities, and staging brazen armed raids against peaceful and unarmed civilians. The Houthis have violated the human rights of Bahá’ïs and many others, time and again, and it must stop.”
Where is the peace? Peace rests on justice and #humanrights in #Yemen and everywhere! My predecessor called out the discrimination, hostility, and violence against the Baha'is by Yemen's de-facto authorities (A/HRC/49/44 annex) and now this!
call to the Houthi authorities to immediately release the innocent individuals detained today and to leave the Yemeni Baháʼí community to live and practice their faith in peace. https://t.co/W8JFPUQga5…The@bahai_lu
Absolutely essential that peace negotiations include minorities. A lasting peace cannot be achieved until human rights of all are upheld. The persecution of the Baha’i requires top-level attention & condemnation @antonioguterres@volker_turk@WairimuANderitu@IRF_Ambassador
