This morning I was proud to join Principal Vail, Superintendent Allen, Mayor Petty, fellow School Committee members, WPS staff, and families as we welcomed students back at Heard Street School with their annual red carpet rollout! 🎉
What a wonderful tradition to start the year; celebrating our students, lifting them up, and reminding them that they are the heart of our schools. Wishing everyone a year filled with learning, growth, and success! 📚✨
Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend the Leadership Convening. I am reminded how valuable it is to come together at events like this, particularly as a school committee member. We are not in buildings each day and these gatherings give us the chance to truly hear and understand the goals and objectives being set for the year—goals that begin with our leadership and ultimately guide the work happening in our schools, shaping the experiences of our staff, students and families.
Whether leadership staff are just beginning their careers, in the middle of them, or nearing the end, these events motivate and encourage a sense of belonging and appreciation. Superintendent Allen even shared one of my favorite scenes from The West Wing about education, a quote that has long hung in his office and continues to inspire.
I am grateful to have been part of this week’s activities and am looking forward to all we will accomplish together this school year.🏫
