As we say farewell to @Momalindi on his departure to New York for bigger responsibilities I have to say thank you to the most humanitarian @UNinPak country representative we have seen in recent years. Other than some of us, he will be most missed by the marginalised and the vulnerable, the excluded and the dispossessed of Pakistan. He managed to travel to the remotest corners of the country, make connections across the social pyramid and build life-long relationships with communities who rarely get heard. May his next posting bring him even greater opportunities to use his extraordinary skill sets and experience @unocha.

Hon'ble Chief Minister Sindh @MuradAliShahPPP held a meeting with the United Nations Resident Coordinator @Momalindi at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.
The Provincial Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Sindh, @SyZulfiqarShah, the Provincial Minister for education @sardarshah1, and other senior officials were also in attendance.

The meeting discussed strengthening the development partnership between the Government of Sindh and the United Nations, including proposals to observe UN Day 2026 on October 24 as a Cultural Day to highlight Sindh’s rich cultural identity and global cultural diversity.

Cooperation in climate resilience, health, education, nutrition, social protection, women’s empowerment, environmental protection, water resources, agriculture, forestry, and youth skills development were also reviewed, with both sides agreeing to further strengthen collaboration for sustainable development and public welfare.

The United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Pakistan, Mr. Mohamed Yahya, paid a farewell call on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif today.

The Prime Minister thanked Mr. Yahya for his valuable contribution to strengthening Pakistan-UN cooperation during his tenure, and for the UN Country Team's continued support to Pakistan's development and humanitarian priorities, including climate resilience, sustainable development, and disaster response. He recalled with appreciation the UN's role in mobilizing international support for Pakistan, particularly during the 2022 floods.

The Prime Minister congratulated Mr. Yahya on his appointment as Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator at the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), describing it as a fitting recognition of his experience and commitment. He wished him continued success in his new assignment and expressed confidence that Pakistan's close partnership with the UN would continue to grow.

While thanking the Prime Minister for the appreciation, Mr. Yahya expressed his gratitude for the cooperation extended to him and the UN Country Team by the Government of Pakistan throughout his tenure, and reaffirmed the United Nations' continued commitment to supporting Pakistan's development and humanitarian agenda.

Deputy Prime Minister & Foreign Minister Sen. Mohammad Ishaq Dar, SAPM Syed Tariq Fatemi and other senior government officials were also present during the meeting.
