After reading this paper, every hospital should be hitting the PANIC button, knowing babies are being harmed by our current exclusive breastfeeding policies. I'm looking at you @WHO@BabyFriendlyUSA@MedMalLawyers
We would like to draw your attention to this review of the literature on breastmilk insufficiencies by fellow mother Dr Vera Wilde whose baby suffered excess weight loss as a result of insufficient milk intake while exclusively breastfeeding.

In the year 2021, this misogynistic, antiquated, gendered bullshit is still being used and no one blinks an eye other than our own echo chamber of #fedisbest advocates. I can't even.
Where to even start with this one. This was a 4 point (not psychometrically validated) scale asking people how often they felt irritable. 1 = once/twice a month, 2 = once/twice a week. Average scores don’t indicate high levels of anger & irritability. Correlation is not causation
@RuthAnnHarpur Why should questions be considered ‘tough’ when standards of care are based on scientific evidence? 🤷🏼♀️ #normalizementalhealthchecks as the priority full stop.
@RuthAnnHarpur Yes, I agree. During my 30 years of clinical experiences, and the most recent research tells us that people who have a history of depression are at a greater risk for PPD-then factoring in breastfeeding complications and or challenges can be emotionally debilitating.
Ever wonder why breastfeeding advocates often tell us doctors who recommend supplementation with formula are not “properly trained in breastfeeding”? Here’s your answer...
Will we have a fourth surge? It's a question that's in the balance right now, and the answer is up to us. If we mask up, avoid indoor gatherings, vaccinate equitably, the answer will be no.
@RuthAnnHarpur Thank you once again for interpreting the research correctly! This is the reason why there is breastfeeding denialism. Parents deserve the truth— not half truths 🤦🏼♀️
^^^an interaction based on correlational data might we add! They found a reduction in the association between smoking and lower respiratory infections for babies who were BF for >6 months.
"While there is good reason to be hopeful about breast milk as a coronavirus treatment for infants, we are many steps and funding dollars away from developing an effective therapy." https://t.co/JuTHMKskTr
Breast milk produces mainly secretory (s)IgA antibodies and has been detected in the breast milk of mothers with previous COVID-19 infection, but not studied enough to address protection from COVID-19 in breastfed infants.

Many parents have asked how COVID-19 antibodies work in breastmilk. To answer their questions, we created a diagram of how primary viral infection antibodies are produced and how they work in breastmilk to offer protection for your baby.
