COACHES: Find ways to catch your players doing good. Praise, recognize, acknowledge, and celebrate the things they do right. We might get frustrated with what they do wrong, but it's the things they do right which leads to winning. Find ways to inspire your players.
Hoopers!
Continue to show up every day!
Regardless of your role at this point of the season… one of the lessons you will learn from sports is that no matter what your emotional state is continue to show up and give great effort!
Learning how to do this will make you stronger!
Playing college athletics on any level is life-changing. It’s YOUR path, YOUR journey. Don’t ever compare yourself to anyone else or anyone else’s choices. Very few athletes get the chance to play at all. Be proud of the rare opportunity you’ve been given & make the most of it!
Coaches: One of the most important elements of your job is relationship building. To nurture & grow your team, you have to be able to make connections, expand leadership abilities & develop others. Great coaches know that both coaching & leadership flourish through relationships!
As teammates, don’t worry about whose fault it is for losing. Instead of pointing fingers, lift each other up and take collective ownership so you can succeed as a team!
COACHES: Treat your athletes with respect, dignity, and empathy even when they do not return the favor, or they act immature, or they cost you a win. Be the adult. Be the positive leader. Be the example. Be one of the reasons they become a good adult one day.
