Strong teacher-student relationships are not a bonus part of learning.

They shape whether students feel safe enough to participate, take academic risks, receive feedback, and stay engaged when the work becomes difficult.

This does not mean teachers have to be liked by every student in a popularity-contest sense. It means students need to believe the adult in the room sees them, respects them, and remains steady even when correction is needed.

Learning requires vulnerability.

Students are more willing to be vulnerable with adults they trust.

Stepping off the plane was @nate_oats as he became the 21st head basketball coach for the Crimson Tide. Since that fateful afternoon, Alabama has enjoyed unparalleled success as the record books continue to be rewritten season after season.
