Kevin Briggs, a former California Highway Patrol officer, is known for his extraordinary efforts in preventing more than 200 people from taking their lives on the Golden Gate Bridge.
When Briggs encounters someone in distress on the bridge, he typically initiates a conversation by asking how they are doing and inquiring about their plans for the following day. If the individual has no plans, Briggs often suggests making plans together, even inviting them to return to the bridge if things don’t work out.
One poignant moment captured in 2005 shows Briggs spending 60 minutes talking with Kevin Berthia, ultimately persuading him to climb back over the bridge's rail. Berthia went on to marry and have several children.
For his compassionate and life-saving work, Kevin Briggs has earned the nickname ‘Guardian of the Golden Gate.’
