The DEGEN drama today is a sign of more struggles to come for those launching chains via a centralized RaaS provider. Deploying via alternative platforms such as @monea_xyz will prove to be far safer, and give chain operators far more control in the short and long run.
Why Based Rollups?
In an earlier article (linked below), we delved into an introduction to Based Rollups (BR) or L1-sequenced rollups.
But what makes them potentially take the lead in popular adoption soon?
▶️ Decentralization
BR shifts away from using its own unique sequencer and instead leverages the main L1 chain, specifically Ethereum's mainnet, for direct transaction sequencing.
▶️ Guaranteed Continuity
The philosophy is straightforward: as long as the L1 remains functional, BR is assured to keep running.
▶️ Cost-Effectiveness
By foregoing dedicated sequencers and utilizing L1 for sequencing tasks, development and user expenses are minimized. This also makes for an effortless setup.
▶️ Economic Synergy with L1
BR's economic structure fosters a closely intertwined and beneficial relationship with the L1 since priority fees and MEV are channeled to the L1.
...
BR encounters a unique set of obstacles:
⭕ Profitability Concerns
Due to MEV and priority fees going straight to L1, BR loses these potential revenue streams, which diminishes its overall profitability.
⭕ Challenges with L1
Relying solely on L1 for sequencing introduces drawbacks like slow block times (12 seconds for Ethereum) and latency issues, leading to a subpar user experience.
...
In response, various protocols have integrated Pre-confirmations (Preconfs), allowing validators to pledge the inclusion of specific transactions in upcoming blocks before they propose them.
This breakthrough significantly accelerates transactions without requiring any drastic changes to the consensus layer.
...
BR and Preconfs are relatively new, but several projects have already emerged and implemented them:
⟩ @taikoxyz - Ethereum-Equivalent ZK-EVM BR
⟩ @gwyneth_taiko - BR + Preconfs based on Taiko
⟩ @puffer_unifi - BR + Preconfs + Atomic Composability by @puffer_finance
⟩ @Spire_Labs - Stack for appchains on Ethereum
⟩ KeySpace - @coinbase BR ZK rollups for smart wallets across any chains
⟩ @AestusRelay
⟩ @boltprotocol_
⟩ @EspressoSys
⟩ @primev_xyz
⟩ @LimeChainHQ
⟩ @monea_xyz
⟩ @nethermind
⟩ @Commit_Boost
⟩ @titanbuilderxyz
Simply put, BR isn't about achieving the fastest transaction speed or unlimited composability. Instead, it offers an elegant solution to the centralization of sequencers on existing L2 rollups, while ensuring a simple and cost-effective deployment.

has anyone built a local environment setup that runs an Anvil L1 node along with multiple other L2 local dev nodes that talk to that L1?
something like https://t.co/AE1L9HOIpu but for more than just @Optimism
Anvil L1 + @Optimism + @arbitrum + @zksync + @Starknet + @fuel_network + ....
the more the merrier :)
1/ We are excited to share that Commit-Boost is headed towards audit and production! As an open-source, public good, this could not have been possible without many teams across the Ethereum Community. Thank you for all your time and effort! See below 👇
