Long Island couldn’t have asked for a better opening to conference play, starting (4–0) for the first time, and much of that success has been driven by the emergence of Kadida Toure alongside Hannah Humphrey.
Toure’s rise has been one of the early conference storylines. After averaging ;4.6) points and (2.9) rebounds over her first three seasons, she has taken on a completely different role this year, producing (19.7) points and (10.6) rebounds per game. Her impact was on full display in a 77–61 win over St. Francis (PA), where she finished with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. Across Long Island’s four conference victories, those averages have climbed to (22.0) points and (11.8) rebounds.
Humphrey has also found another level since league play began. The Kendleton native has increased her scoring output from (6.6) points per game during nonconference action to (10.5) points in conference games. She posted 12 points in the 86–81 win over Mercyhurst and followed it up with a 15-point outing in the team’s most recent contest, giving Long Island another reliable scoring presence as conference play unfolds.
