The beauty of a brutalist exterior
Brutalism never tried to be liked. It was never about charm or warmth or making you feel welcome. It was about honesty. Raw material left exactly as it was, structure exposed, nothing hidden behind a coat of paint or a decorative facade. And somehow, decades later, that refusal to perform is exactly what makes it so striking.
There is a kind of confidence in a building that doesn’t apologize for what it is. Heavy, grey, unmovable. While everything around it gets renovated and reskinned to follow whatever the moment demands, brutalist structures just stand there. Unchanged. Unbothered. Still saying the same thing they said on the day they were built.
That’s not ugliness. That’s conviction.
