🚨Victory in New Mexico!🚨
With strong bipartisan support, NM’s Legislature passed SB 375, ending parole fees statewide! Huge thanks to @MoeMaestasNM & NMCD’s Secretary Tafoya Lucero for fighting to remove financial barriers so families can focus on basic needs & reintegration.
Exciting day for New Mexicans! Reinstating licenses improves our economy, allows law enforcement and courts to focus on their core responsibilities, and gives our families a lifeline.
Big day in NM today as the state marks the end of license suspensions for missed fines & fees payments or court hearings. Ending this counterproductive policy means 300K New Mexicans will regain the freedom to drive, work & provide for their families! https://t.co/rNw4kgKWMW
Welcome to Nevada — where the average commissary markup is 66% and reading glasses might as well be a luxury. Glasses or not, we can all see what’s wrong with this picture. #PassSB416
I can’t believe it! Thank you @GovMLG @MLaraCadena, Chief Justice Bacon, the NM judiciary, NMABFF, @NMVoices@ACLUNM, @NMPovertyLaw, @NMDefenders, @nmcdla, @BoldFutures, NMSC, AFP, Bend the Arc, and so many more lawmakers who contributed to making this a reality for NM!
🥇🎉ANOTHER VICTORY for New Mexico!
Last night, @GovMLG signed HB 139, officially ending post-adjudication & bench warrant fees, taking the state one step closer towards ending the criminalization of poverty.
Huge thanks to NM's judiciary, lawmakers, and all the advocates who made this possible. And of course our own @MonicaAult & @afarrell_312!

Withholding someone’s driver’s license for non-payment of tickets makes it impossible for someone to go to work and earn enough money to pay the tickets.
This is a combination of home arrest and debtors prison.
Yeah, New Mexico. (And the other 23 states)
Thank you @MLaraCadena for understanding the weight of this campaign, always showing New Mexicans the utmost respect, and moving with power and grace in debate. I am lucky to fight alongside you. #nmleg#decriminalizepoverty
🎉ANOTHER win for New Mexico—the legislature has passed HB 139! This bill would end the post-adjudication & bench warrant fees that trap thousands in debt & poverty. Now it heads to @GovMLG!

VICTORY 🎉New Mexico is officially the 24th state to end debt-based license suspensions — meaning over 300K New Mexicans will regain the freedom to drive.
Thank you @GovMLG@senatorwirth@CrystalRDiamond@Christine4nm for putting working families back in the driver's seat!
Thank you @MLaraCadena for sponsoring HB 139, a bill that eliminates all court fees. Not only are court fees a costly and inefficient way to raise revenue, but they also disproportionately harm our most vulnerable families and communities. #nmleg#nmpol https://t.co/H64L3Ve6GO
I am thankful & overwhelmed with the bipartisan support for HB 139. With the help of many, it moves onto the Governor. Thank you Chief Justice Bacon, @MLaraCadena, the AOC, and the NMSC, for your dedication to ending the criminalization of poverty! #everythingisbetterwithbacon
Thank you @senatorwirth, @CrystalRDiamond, and @Christine4nm for putting working families first, guaranteeing that over 300,000 New Mexicans will get their licenses restored, & ensuring that no one will have their license suspended simply because they missed a payment! @GovMLG

Momentum is building to eliminate justice fees that harm our families, destabilize judicial budgets, and underfund government services. We are thrilled to support Chief Justice Bacon, the judiciary, and @MLaraCadena in this effort! @GovMLG
In New Mexico Chief Justice Bacon's "State of the Judiciary" speech yesterday, she announced the state judiciary's support for fee elimination.
Eliminating fees "is a national best practice, which promotes budget transparency," said Chief Justice Bacon: https://t.co/1uu02l2gW6
