Also, tyty @DrDanielGillis & @shoshanahjacobs !! U both are so engaging in ur teaching and it's so heartwarming to see profs like u that care so much about their students. Twitter doesn't give me enough characters to explain how great u both are! @IdeasCongress #CircularFarm
Wow, after our last class I didn't realize how fast time flew by this sem. I wanted to give a huge s/o to my group, our skills & knowledge fit together magically. I've never experienced such a productive, hardworking, caring & FUN group! #CircularFarm @IdeasCongress
I think we reached the pit mentioned in the intro class -we thought we knew nothing & were destined for failure but today's class really brought us back up! We have a solution for our project!!🙌🏼@maryrodenburg@just_ilhan@theLindaN@sdesro03#CircularFarm @IdeasCongress
With our convo today on farmers' mental health, I thought it was nice to see that the gov't is taking a step to address this prevalent issue. Also, super cool to see the UofG acknowledgment in this! @IdeasCongress #CircularFarm#MentalHealthMatters https://t.co/9zyqLQyFEL
Loved Dr. Mastromonaco's lecture in #BIOM4110 today! Here is her chapter in ScienceDirect’s recent book where she discusses the ongoing decline in biodiversity and how proper long-term genetic and demographic management of endangered species can help.

In case anyone was interested in the science behind our #biom4110 product idea for a progesterone biosensor that helps women 👩 at risk of preterm labour, here's the article we referenced! @MonicaHa15@LujaynMahmoud@anamikadutta99@IanStPierre5

#BIOM4110@IanStPierre5 deserves a shoutout for the cool animation he made of our Pee4 device by ProP4! Take a look at how it works in the following video:
Congrats to my fellow ProP4 members @anamikadutta99@IanStPierre5@LujaynMahmoud@michelless99 on our Dragons' Den pitch today! For those that didn't catch it, our product is Pee4 - the name kind of explains it: it is a urine test to measure progesterone (P4) levels! #BIOM4110
According to the United Nations Fund for Population Activities, 320,000 pregnant women in Yemen will be cut off from lifesaving reproductive health services due to fund cutting. Women all over the world continue to suffer in silence. #WomensDay#BIOM4110

Miscarriage and stillbirths may have underlying vascular pathology. History of miscarriage & recurrent miscarriage associated with higher risk of CHD. History of stillbirths found to have strong association with strokes. #BIOM4110#BIOM4180 https://t.co/lnlncafGk3
Reproductive factors & women's cardiovascular health: Women who started their periods before age 12 had a 10% increased risk of developing CVD vs. 13 yrs+. Women that went through menopause before 47 had 33% increased risk of heart disease and 42% for stroke. #BIOM4110#BIOM4180
This article investigates the DOHaD concept mentioned in class today! It considers the manifestation of non-communicable diseases by environmental insults in early life linked to low and middle class income countries. https://t.co/CzFzC5Ew4R #BIOM4110
I found a great article that compares estrous cycles in diff lab animals. It's key to understand the differences when selecting animals for ovarian studies. Take a look at the difference in the figures of estrous cycles of rats, dogs & monkeys! #BIOM4110 https://t.co/uMvpeywAVF
@BuliungEmily@CureSMACanada I agree because how manageable the disease is a huge factor. It was also mentioned in the article that if a genetic defect is found then there's a concern for pregnancy complications. #BIOM4110
A lot of debate in class td with the ethics of implanting an embryo known to carry on a genetic defect. I read an article where a repro endocrinologist said "I’m OK transferring a BRCA-positive embryo, but not a trisomy 21 embryo.” Hoping to start a respectful convo! #BIOM4110
@michelless99@anamikadutta99 For clarification: my mindset is if you're allowed to choose the traits of a child, then you should be able to implant an embryo of your choice.
@michelless99@anamikadutta99 Yes, so the decision of the clinician seems to rely on how manageable the defect/disease is. I agree with that. But, if technology ends up allowing for "designer babies", does this change stance on not respecting the parents' decision to implant an embryo with a defect? #BIOM4110
