BESSENT WARNS FED PROBE CREATES MARKET RISK

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told President Trump that the investigation into Fed Chair Jerome Powell has “made a mess” and could hurt financial markets, sources say. His concerns appeared justified as the dollar fell and bond yields and gold rose amid fears of political interference.

The probe, launched without Treasury or White House coordination, is unprecedented and has prompted Powell to publicly deny wrongdoing. Sources say the investigation may also complicate plans for Powell’s replacement, as it has hardened his resolve to stay until his term ends in May.
